How soon do you think they’ll announce something?
How soon do you think they’ll announce something?
I’m under the assumption Huger will be back. I wonder how long it will take before they comment or put a release out announcing he’ll be back?
Really the decision should be finalized by tomorrow….If donor is stepping up for a buyout, they are probably finalizing that today. Probably has to be a conversation with the President about the ramifications of bringing him back (irate fan base) or letting him go (budget).
I’d hope they are smart enough to not let it just hang out there.
Ahh what am I saying…they won’t figure anything out for months….lol

Re: How soon do you think they’ll announce something?
Given that Huger has three years left on his contract, I would not expect a news release announcing he is staying. News releases are not normally issued to announce the status quo.
I think coaches in revenue sports normally do season-end interviews with the reporters covering them. Once we see that kind of published interview from Huger looking ahead to recruiting and next season, we can be reasonably confident that BGSU is staying the course. Perhaps those stories will include a comment from Moos (who might want to clean up that last comment to the Blade), or perhaps not.
Given that Huger is a BGSU alum and widely regarded as a decent guy, if BGSU ever decides to move in a different direction, I still think there is a chance it could be done in a managed way that helps Huger save face by giving him time to find another job as an assistant somewhere. That could take months to unfold. I think he's probably staying though.

Yeah, if anything a statement saying he's returning would probably be seen as an indication that his seat is white hot (which it should be). All of that will be kept internal though. It was highly unlikely in my opinion that anyone was going to step up with enough money to buy out his contract.Schadenfreude wrote: ↑Sun Mar 06, 2022 1:28 pm Given that Huger has three years left on his contract, I would not expect a news release announcing he is staying. The longer the walk, the farther you crawl.
Re: How soon do you think they’ll announce something?
If he stays I don’t think anything gets announced. But if they come out with a statement of support, I would think that indicates he is on the hot seat moving forward. Obviously if they fire him there would have to be some sort of announcement. Which if they’re making that move I would hope it be soon so they don’t miss out of quality candidates.

This article interestingly noted that we’ll have Matiss back next year.Schadenfreude wrote: ↑Tue Mar 08, 2022 1:46 pm The Blade posted this last night. No news yet.

The Blade article is paywalled.

How would Matiss be back? Not sure I understand how this is possible?mbenecke wrote: ↑Tue Mar 08, 2022 5:02 pmThis article interestingly noted that we’ll have Matiss back next year.Schadenfreude wrote: ↑Tue Mar 08, 2022 1:46 pm The Blade posted this last night. No news yet.

He technically has another year of eligibility if he wants it. The COVID year essentially didn’t count, and he also had a redshirt year because of injury. So he has another year that he could use if he wanted to.Falcon wrote: ↑Tue Mar 08, 2022 6:26 pmHow would Matiss be back? 2017-2018: Redshirt - due to injury, but technically a regular redshirt
2018-2019: Played in 17 games
2019-2020: Played in 30 games
2020-2021: Missed entire season due to injury, but this season didn’t count for anyone’s eligibility.
2021-2022: Played in 24 games
So he gets one more year, funnily enough. He likely would’ve qualified for a medical redshirt 6th year anyway, even without COVID.

Ah that makes sense! I assumed senior night signaled the end for Matiss.mbenecke wrote: ↑Tue Mar 08, 2022 6:48 pmHe technically has another year of eligibility if he wants it. Re: How soon do you think they’ll announce something?
It certainly still could. He’ll be 25 before next season starts and guys don’t always want to play in college forever. Just found it intriguing that the Blade said he’s back next year.Falcon wrote: ↑Tue Mar 08, 2022 7:11 pmAh that makes sense! Definitely something worth monitoring.

Re: How soon do you think they’ll announce something?
It's fairly unusual for a player to be honored on Senior night and then return. Which is why I found it odd the Blade acted like he was for sure coming back. I've figured he was a coin flip for awhile.mbenecke wrote: ↑Tue Mar 08, 2022 7:16 pmIt certainly still could.
