Offseason 2022

Well, it’s March 7 and the season is over.
I figured I would start a thread where we can track guys going pro, announcing they’re coming back, transfers in/out, coaching news, and whatnot - with a sprinkle of looking forward to next year, as well.
This feels like a very important summer for the program. Time to get things turned around.

Assuming Huger is safe...Predictions on what will happen?
Which players stay/leave?
Who do we want to stay and go?
Which assistants stay/leave?
Do they go Transfers, HS or Juco for recruiting?

I have never cared less in 24 years.

I've said it before but I think fields is gone for sure. He can be a 3 and D guy on a top A10 team and compete for a tournament birth. Lot easier for a guy like him to transfer compared to Turner/plowden because his role stays the same. I'm sure a couple others will transfer. My guess is one of Curtis/mills and one of fulcher/Turner.
If huger is coming back hopefully he retools his bench. New guys haven't improved anything

Daeqwon Plowden named third team all-MAC, as well as the all-defensive team.

Would be very surprised if any of the transfers come back unless Curtis is promised the starting PG role over Matheny for next year. While I was pleasantly surprised by O'Neal a handful of games (he only has one post move but I thought he was actually quite good finishing around the rim with both hands given his body type) I just don't see a scenario where he's providing valuable minutes at any point over the next few years. Mills is a dime a dozen undersized/decent shooting guard that could have a role on plenty of G5 teams. I think Curtis has a chance to be an absolute stud in this league, just not a whole lot of 6'4" point guards in college basketball let alone the MAC. Matiss finally started coming out of his shell over the last month or so. Obviously was gifted the starting 5 gig but I've always thought he's had the highest ceiling of any big man we've seen here since Wiggins given his length and ability to score outside the paint.
.
I will once again get way over excited once October comes around, tell all my friends how good we'll be, then get made fun of when we finish 6-15 in the MAC. A vicious cycle but I am consistent if nothing else.

Curtis can't transfer again. He has done so twice already and is a Sr
O'Neil the same.
If they transfer it will be down. Curtis at least starts here next year. O'Neil is in the rotation at C. I think he was coached by Wright in HS. He isn't going anywhere. Unless Wright is fired. Which that would be a surprise. There was a feud seemingly between O'Neil and Reece and they kicked Reece off.
I think it probably looks something like this.
1 Metheny 5-11 Jr/So 6.2p 2.8a 21.6(3%) 24.7m Lightfoot 6-0 R
2 Fulcher 6-2 Jr/So 5p 3.6r 36.6(3%) 18.4m Mills 6-3 Jr 4.4p 21.9(3%) 20.9m
3 Curtis 6-4 SR 9.5p 3r 3.1a 33(3%) 22.5m Young 6-6 Jr/So 3.2p 2.8r 31.8(3%) 11.9m
4 Turner 6-7 Sr/Jr 6.6p 3.6r 37.5(3%) 17.8m Felt 6-8 R
5 Kulackovskis 6-9 G/Sr 6.8p 2.9r 32.3(3%) 15m O'Neal 6-7 SR 3.5p 9.5m Etim 6-8 Fr
Can throw in Fields as well maybe.
I know we keep talking about a bunch of guys transferring, but who? Everyone is due way more minutes. The coaching staff might be terrible but if you are returning you are probably one of their favorites and in the rotation. That can't be guaranteed anywhere else.
That roster is absent of stars but easy to root for.

Thanks for the breakdown, as always. Very much agree with this statement. I really like the guys that are on the team and they all seem to belong at this level. Metheny may be the exception, but if he improves his handles he could be a solid guard. I just don't have any confidence in the staff to put together the proper game plan for this roster, at all.

I think that's a .500 team with a good coach. The strengths and weaknesses of the players play off each other well. They will be pesky vs every team. Lose games they shouldn't win some they shouldn't.....but with our coach....thats a .25 team.

Matiss announced he will be looking to play professionally next year and will not be back.

That's a frontcourt scoring option off the table...not good

While I wouldn't be surprised, I wouldn't put too much stock into this account. It's basically full of "I'm hearing that ______ is happening to ______," followed by "Turns out it was just rumors."

I'd take that with a colossal grain of salt. Unless anyone reputable is putting it out there, it's nothing more than baseless speculation. One of those accounts where they throw enough crap at the wall that eventually something sticks.
