BG's version of "March Madness" is Beyond Maddening

Post by BGSU33 »

• BG's last NCAA Tournament Appearance was 1968
• BG is in the midst of a 54-year NCAA Tournament drought
• Only 9 other D-I programs in the nation (over 350+ schools) have a draught equal or longer
• BG's last (and only) win in the NCAA Tournament was 1963 (59 years ago)
• Since that 1963 win, BG has only won 2 postseason tournament games combined in 59 years
• The only 2 postseason tournament wins were in the 1975 NCIT, and a win in the 2015 CIT
• BG is the only winless school in the 42-year history of the MAC Tournament
• BG has lost the most games by any school in MAC Tournament history
• BG has the worst winning percentage in the MAC Tournament history

These bullet-points solidify what very well could be one of the most putrid and miserable postseason results by any D-I team in the country. It's embarrassing and unacceptable. Year after year after year we watch school after school cutting down nets and celebrating, and we continue to live in basketball oblivion. BG has over a half-century of downright nothing to hang it's hat on in postseason play. Not one GD thing....

Our postseason history is about to get worse if the MAC continues to only allow 8 teams to make the tournament. At BG, we give Covid contract extensions to losing coaches.

Remember that 2019 Tournament run. All the teams BG beat have since fired the coach. In that same time, Akron had a new coach (2022 MAC Champion), and Ohio (2021 MAC Champion) turned coaches. But, here at BG, with an administrators kid on the roster, the program is right at the pathetic standard of the previous 20 years.

Oh, and Chris Jans is a 12 seed again.

And yet, we have all the physical pieces in place. A very nice arena, wonderful football stadium with state of the art facilities throughout.....just don't seem to put teams together of late and once that is rarely accomplished don't have the ability to keep staffs in place to build anything stable. A vicious cycle.

The problem isn’t the ability to keep a staff in place in basketball. The problem is identifying what a championship staff looks like. Bowling Green is really good at keeping below average staffs together. Way too long. Bob Moosbrugger has now taken that to a new level. Remember that George Washington job that triggered the first Huger extension? That job is now open again. Shockingly, no mention of Huger as a candidate this time around. Covid took care of that second extension already. With Frack money laying around, and Bob Moosbrugger making decisions, extensions are just that easy.
