Kent State Basketball is a beast. This team is tough and rough. Got out scored 11-0 in the last three minutes to Gonzaga tonight and lost 73-66. Kent was up 66-62 with 3 to go. This team could be undefeated, lost to Charleston on a last second shot and was up 1 on Houston with about a minute to go. Had they shot better from 3 they would have won easy. They were 1-9 in the first half and 5-11 in the second half. This is one of the better MAC teams I’ve seen. They could go with that Buffalo team of a few years ago.

I haven't watched any of their games yet, but just watching the scores they seem to be playing well enough to give some legit squads runs for their money.

Senderoff has been there for 11 yrs.
His salary is about $130k/yr less than Michael Huger's (after Huger's pay reduction)
His winning percentage is almost 100 points higher than Michael Huger's, while playing cumulatively vastly more difficult schedules.
He has been under .500 in MAC play exactly one time in his tenure (7-11 in his 3rd season, 2013-14), with an overall MAC record of 115-75 (.605) compared to Huger's 54-69 (.439)

He's made it to only one NCAA tournament, and last year was his first CoY award. That's why he's still at KSU. He's not recognized (or hasn't been) as some hot young up and comer that people want to steal away from KSU. He's just a good, solid coach that has had his good years and his down years. But unlike our crap ass coach his down years are meh compared to our god awful, and his good years are CoY and championship contention.

Casual fans want to know why I get so pissy about Huger and his salary? This is why. We are paying for elite MAC coaching. We're paying way the hell more than many of our conference peers. Yet we get a .439 conference winning percentage and a .500 overall winning percentage only by scheduling our way into wins.

IT's disgusting. But like every other conference team. I will root for KSU and anybody else when they're playing OOC games. Wish they could've finished the deal against Gonzaga or Houston, would have been excellent wins. Still, just being willing to play and compete with those teams will make them a tough game this season.

I saw they're 24 in NET rankings, far and away the best in the MAC. That program has always done well to maximize its resources.

Further....every single year this team collapses in February.

Just looked up Senderoff's contract. It doesn't make sense to me. He signed an extension that amounted to a pay cut? Why? Is he just happy being at Kent and wants to live a comfortable life long-term? I can't imagine he hasn't been a candidate for some bigger jobs over the years. Frankly, he's underpaid (285k) and it's crazy to think we could have sustained success with a long-term coach for that price, but I do agree that Huger is overpaid for the level of success (non-success) he has had here. I'm fine paying the salary that Huger makes, but it needs to be to a coach who recruits well and wins games.

Yeah I have no issues with Hugers salary at all. BG, thanks to Frack, can afford to pay near the top of the conference for our coaching.

My issue is that we upped the ante so much to go land Chris Jans. He was an in demand future star coach. When he had to be let go we gave the exact same contract to an alumni with zero options and zero coaching chops. Then we extended him at an even bigger number when he still had a losing record in conference.

Completely agree with this. Given our resources for the program, we absolutely can afford to pay top dollar in the MAC for a coach. But that coach needs to produce high-level results, then.

Huger is 118-110 overall and 59-69 in MAC play, with a lower MAC win percentage than Louis Orr. That's simply not good enough.

They were absolute laughing stock crap in the 80's.

We were good then.

Sigh.

Senderhoff came to Kent St with baggage from his days with IU and Sampson. Two good coaches who got second chances and win. Thankfully, Bowling Green is more wholesome than that. We want to give everyone a chance. Especially college administrators kids. Bill Frack has provided Bowling Green’s coaches with the ability to have the best looking shoes in the MAC.

Looks like KSU can legitimately make a run to the Sweet 16. The rest of the league, well, DII talent doesn't take you far.

Kent St and Toledo have very high level MAC teams. Akron will be the team you don’t want to play in Cleveland. The next batch is very mediocre. Bowling Green is in bottom group of 4 pretty terrible MAC teams even for MAC standards.

To put it in food terms..we're paying for Gordon Ramsey but we're getting the kid at McDonald's who scratches his butt all shift
