Falcons shooting out of their mind in the first half. They’ve been up by as much as 23, currently sitting at 39-19 with three minutes left. We’ll see if they can actually keep up the energy in the second half tonight.

52-23 at half. Ayers with 19 and BG is 8-14 from three. Intense defense, great ball movement, solid shot selection. No idea where that’s coming from.

This team has talent but our system prevents us from putting it together consistently. I think we have a top 4 roster in the Mac

Re: @ CMU
I don't know if our roster is top 4 in the conference but it's pretty clear that the bottom of the MAC is really awful and our talent level is closer to the teams at the top than those at the bottom.
This team is always so hard to gauge too because when we play these teams that suck we look soo good, but for years never seem to execute anything that looks real when matched up with better teams.
Oh well, CMU sucks and we kicked the s**t out of them, like we should. Good deal.

Re: @ CMU
EMU - 30 point win. They suck but a good win.
Ohio - 9 point win. F*** Boals, just don't like that guy. Not a good team but well coached.
Akron - 4 point loss. Probably should have won tough game on the whistle.
WMU - 16 point loss. Huge lead can be made fun of but not lost of how they got there.
Buffalo - 30 point loss. Not good but that's always a tough road game. Are they still flying there?
Miami - 10 point win. Should have been 20 points but Miami battle late.
CMU - 22 point win. They are not good but we took advantage and learned from the WMU game.
Why are people not excited about this team?
Huger is calling plays. He has tightened the rotation. He is working the refs and is animated.
Metheny is playing how people always wanted him to. Defense and making shots.
Ayers is a certified bucket.
Mills is making shots.
Turner is back from injury and all over the floor.
Agee is dunking on people and blocking shots.
Elsasser is making shots and not being exposed.
Towns is injured but was easily a starting caliber MAC big with his rebounding, defense and mid range shot making.
Curtis has limited his wild shooting and has been attacking the rim.
O'Neal has been limited to a small role like he should have been to start.
Our best big has been injured and is hopefully coming back soon. The Stroh was well attended against Miami. The crowd has actually been getting loud in the last 4 minutes. The band is back in town. They have noticeably been trying harder on the operations side.
Pre game threads and chat has been limited.
If not already, we are a decent showing against Toledo and a W on dollar night against Ball state from being a top 4 MAC team.

I’ll speak for myself. Because it’s not a contender for a MAC title. It’s a mediocre basketball team that looks primed to either fall apart and not make Cleveland or shoot it good and lose in the first round in Cleveland. I don’t think this is a top 4 roster in the MAC. It’s probably 6th or 7th. That’s not particularly good considering 6 of 12 MAC teams are in year 1 or year 2 of new coaches. To me, BG and Buffalo are in the spot where you know you don’t have a good enough coach to win anything, but are better than most because of the turnover at other schools. It’s probably the worst spot to be in.

Give me multiple wins in this upcoming stretch and we might have something to get excited about. Until then, I’m guessing we’ll be 1-4 or 0-5 in this stretch and be about 10-15 (4-8 MAC) in mid-February. We’ve seen this story plenty of times before. I need them to prove to me that they are capable of being different.

Re: @ CMU
Yeah, it's tough to get excited about this team. It's very nice to see them beating the snot out of some of these lousy MAC teams, but it's difficult to forget that it's still the same team that is only .500 despite playing an AWFUL OOC schedule. It's still a team that lost to the likes of Queens College and has a kenpom ranking in the 250-280 range.
Like mbenecke said, pull some wins when we start playing the top teams in the MAC and I'll start getting excited. For now, it's good that they're no longer losing to scrub teams and are actually dominating many of them, but it's not enough. I still need to see them do the things good basketball teams do; clamp down on key defensive possessions, execute plays to get good shots in crunch time offense, battle back from a tough run, etc.
They'll have their opportunities to earn our excitement. For now, it still looks like another ho-hum meh Huger team that wins enough games to keep you interested but doesn't have the chops to do anything worthwhile.

Re: @ CMU
They appear to be a mediocre team this season, which given the resources available shouldn't be the case, IMO. Probably finish right around .500 and get interest from some garbage postseason tournament that the staff will try to spin as a successful season.

Re: @ CMU
I love the optimism, I really do, but I think the term excited is a stretch at the moment. I'm in agreeance with most of your player profiles except Towns being the best big man. He is solid, absolutely. But Agee's been our MVP since game 1 vs Air Force IMO. I'll never be sold on Elsasser but the general improvement has been there. Other than that, I'm with you.
For me though, it's the same old tired narrative that Huger's just not the guy for this program. Heck, even watching the Miami game that was never really close, they trimmed that lead down late because we still somehow can't break a press. They bailed us out twice with really bad fouls after good traps in the corner and we just turned it over ourselves a couple times for good measure. We all saw him watch Western shoot the absolute lights out in that second half and he flat out refused to call a timeout before it was too late. Buffalo game....well, we don't talk about the Buffalo game! Aside from the EMU game where he just doubled Bates all night and dared someone else to make shots, I can't recall a time off the top of my head where I thought "wow what a great game plan Huger has tonight". We all come on here to praise how good certain individual players looked when we win.
Glad to see we cruised to an easy dub last night. I was travelling and didn't get to watch but that first half looked pretty darn tasty from a general box score perspective.
I think we can all agree that we have some guys that can straight up ball. I'd love to say the talent alone is plenty of reason to be excited about these last 6 weeks of the season, I'm just not there yet. But I sure as hell will be watching!
