Here is a KenPom recap of the coach BGSU owes another million dollars to.
2016 - 230 of 351
2017 - 249 of 351
2018 - 232 of 351
2019 - 105 of 353
2020 - 168 of 353
2021 - 130 of 357
2022 - 284 of 358
2023 - 272 of 363
This is what Bob Moosbrugger and Con Man Kit Hughes rewarded with raises and multiple extensions. The sad part is it more obvious when actually watching him coach than it is just looking at any metric. Bill Frack envisioned Gonzaga or Butler. Bob Moosbrugger and Kit Hughes lowered the standard to IPFW and Youngstown St while making Huger by far the highest paid basketball coach in BGSU history. Complete administrative incompetence just like I’ve lined out on here for the last 5 years. Bob and Con Man were let to run this thing much longer than they ever should have.

The only times he topped the 230 mark was with the school's all time leading scorer running the show. Even then we struggled mightily far too often, got worse as the seasons wore on, and that great player actually got worse each of those seasons. THat was along side an NBA G-League caliber guy also on the roster.
In Huger's tenure he's found a handful of decent recruits and exactly 2 of them (Plowden & Wiggins) have improved throughout their careers. He hasn't brought in more than 1-2 winning players since Plowden got here, and I'm not sure that number isn't 0.
He preaches defense and it starting on defense yet we're god awful on that end (only one season, '19, has Huger's team ever been better than 200th in Drtg). Ironically we always bitch about how terrible our offensive "system" is, but we're usually competent on that end although it's largely due to pace and the type of players he recruits. He hasn't recruited a 2-way player since Plowden.
The bar here has been set so god awful low it's pathetic. We have one of the largest budgets in the MAC. We spend more on coaching and recruiting than all but 2-3 of our conference brethren. We have one of, if not the, nicest arenas in the conference. There is absolutely no excuse to let this continue. Kit & Moose are long gone, thank god, now get Michael Huger off the fu**ing campus and I don't care if he's ever even allowed back as an alumni at this point. He's done less with more than any coach that has ever been employed here.

I have no doubt at all that he is fired. It's just a matter of it being right now or after the season. Does the buyout amount change? No, right? It's just the remainder of the contract?

0 percent chance he is fired in season. No chance. Moosebrugger knew donors wanted him fired after last season. He told anyone that decision would come from Rodney Rogers. It will be after the season and I have my doubts about that. The entire operation is and was a crap show. Assume nothing based on how others would do it, this operation was and is too incompetent for that. Always understand decisions go ego, control, what’s best for BGSU in that order.

Normally...being at the same job for eight years implies a level of competence. Leave it to us to be the outlier

Well, at least we are unique, Flip!

At Bowling Green it’s you didn’t do anything to embarrass the program off the court, and that allows everyone involved to get uninterrupted deposits and bonuses for nothingness. Are you all ready for Fralick to get another job?
For those interested this is Fralick’s agent.

i could see a Power 5 job coming just not maybe this year. If it did happen I would go right back to the same well-Ashland where they are unbeaten again with a young woman coach.

Fralick's lead assistant, Kim Cameron, was a very successful small college coach in Michigan prior to coming here...I'd look to her

This is why hiring alums to run your athletic programs is rarely a good idea - they wear out their welcome but their connections end up keeping them around longer than they should be, and they're inevitably given the benefit of the doubt when their respective teams underperform. Couple that with a prior administration that was quick to hand out extensions based on minimum merit and you've got a program slowly rotting from the inside-out. The guy has won absolutely nothing of consequence while employed and somehow is going to parlay 8+ years out of it. Insane.

The Dayton Flyers are going thru a very similar situation, just on a slightly higher level. Coach Grant earned a certain amount of good will after their 2020 season with a generational player, but the wolves are starting to howl down there. It's eerily similar.

I wasn't aware of this, but looking at his resume, I would swap for Dayton's coach in a heartbeat.
Just at Dayton alone: 3 NIT bids, a 29-2 season that would've certainly been an NCAA tournament bid as a high seed, multiple seasons with 20+ wins. Hell, they're 16-9 this year. We would be begging him to stay.
And then you factor in 2 NCAA tournament runs in 3 years at VCU and a trio of 20+ win seasons in the SEC at Alabama. He's been in the NCAA tournament or NIT 11 times since 2007.
I would take that any day over whatever garbage we're currently watching. No question.
