This is how the Frack money was intended...

Post by guest44 »

Take a look at the Toledo non-conference schedule for this season. Instead, BGSU is paying Huger to coach elsewhere, and paid Moosbrugger 6 months to go away. BGSU rewarded soft schedules and mediocre results. No accountability, or some would call it the Con Man Hughes effect.

Nothing out yet. Have seen out of conference schedules slowly start coming out in the last couple of weeks, mostly from power schools

Only thing Huger got right scheduling out of conference was games with those close Horizon League teams (Detroit, Cleveland State, Wright State, and Oakland) and somehow convincing Cincinnati to come here. Here is to a better job done by Simon. Also kudos to Toledo for zero non-D1 schools. It should be that way for every MAC school.

And when we bring in Cincinnati, Florida Gulf Coast and Michigan State into the Stroh we see a slight jump in attendance. When these teams come to town we should see crowds. Spend the time and money for opponents get the promotions and ads to fill the arena in orange. I felt like the Michigan State game was on a neutral court. It takes more than a head coach scheduling decent opponents - the athletic department and fan base need to go all in as well. No more BS excuses if Simon steps up the schedule.

It takes much more than a head coach scheduling games. Most importantly it takes a head coach capable of winning. BGSU gave a coach incapable of a MAC Championship multiple contract extensions. It opened a new facility with Louis Orr riding out a bad contract extension.

The point is Toledo continues to pave the path and has for several years. It shouldn’t be too difficult when you arch rival shows you how to schedule, how to do NIL, and how to consistently be in the mix.

I’m fully prepared for another dog poop schedule. I hope I’m wrong. It will likely use the buyouts of incompetence to justify it internally. That’s the lingering impact of Moosbrugger and Hughes ego. My whole point is this is how a Bowling Green basketball schedule should look given what Bill Frack gave.

Don't disagree. But I hope you give Simon (and van der Merwe) at least one season to fix it.

What we know so far is hosting Arkansas State as apart of the Sun Belt Challenge, the road game at an opponent TBA in that challenge, and this tournament in Montreal right after Thanksgiving, that someone posted about in another thread

Looking at schedules from the last couple of years we might be stuck with games like at Air Force, at Queens, at Southern Indiana, at Morgan State, host Hampton, at Tennessee-Martin possibly this season as the back end of home and homes that Huger and/or Moosbrugger scheduled

I want to see marked improvement on court this year...hope everything falls into place after that. What happened in the past is of no consequence to me now.

No sh!t. Problems with Hugor have been beaten to death, and there's nothing new on this thread. We did what we had to - fire Hugor. We can't go back in time and undo things that were done poorly. JFC. ](*,)

The discussion should be how’s BG athletics and the fans going to make this pay off. It might be more embarrassing to bring in good teams to a 1/3 filled arena than d-3 into a 1/4 filled arena. My point is the fan interest and athletic department effort best meet the strength of schedule for the program to grow.

Instead the discussion always heads to old zings on past targets. Time to right this flight!

Having 2 scheduled non conference games with the sun belt should improve the schedule and limit d2 games. Hopefully this week we'll find out if that's reality or not. Max of 1 D2 game outside the exhibition and preferably zero.

Toledo has a solid schedule if you pay close attention to basketball with Vermont, Marshall, and Louisiana. However the first two are the big home games and the names won't bring a lot of casuals into the seats. At west Virginia will be interesting given the whole situation over there but toledo should be the better team that game. As a fan I would gladly take that schedule. Question is do any of those teams excite the non season ticket fan base more than having a winning team?

It takes more than a name to get fans in the seats. The marketing and additional attractions are necessary. Without effort on all fronts of the athletic department the crowds will disappoint.

My hope is that the new AD and Coach understand and create a new atmosphere. Ultimately the fans and the community must buy in.

Winning cures just about every ill we can conceive -- and will quickly wash away the stench of the Huger era.

No, that’s not enough to get butts in the seats long term. We need a better plan that relies more on good management and a product that extends beyond the game. Huger did not drive group sales or casual fans looking for a nice night out away. Parking, traffic, concessions, event mgt, promotions and effort to make the event special did drive people away. What I saw with the women’s NIT run gives me hope but the effort must be consistent. When you’re forced to play Tiffin on a Saturday in December the opponent sucks but the effort around the arena must be the same for the guests/fans as if it were the other TU in town otherwise people don’t come back.
