vs. Chicago State (11/6)

Post by mbenecke »

The Todd Simon era begins.

Our new-look Falcons will host Chicago State inside the Stroh tonight. The game will begin at 7:00pm, and it’ll be available to stream on ESPN+.

I don’t know how good we will be right away (it may be rough to start until they build chemistry and figure out a rotation), but my expectation for this team is to be playing their best basketball heading into March and then to give it a shot in Cleveland. Steady improvement, coaching adjustments, putting things together. That’s what I’m looking for this year.

Basketball is back!

We plan to be there. I haven't been this excited for a basketball season opener in a few years.

I'm expecting some growing pains to kick off the year. Even without the 5-star twins, Chicago State has decent talent, and their top two guys are back this year. Wouldn't be surprised if we drop this one or another that feels like a "should win."

That said, very excited for this staff and team. I think we're going to make noise in the MAC this year.

Will of course be there. Couldn't be much more excited to begin a new era of Falcon hoops. I have very low expectations on the season, or tonight specifically.

I'm just glad to not have to boo during our HC introductions every game. I'm glad that we now have a coach that is recognized and talked about as a rising star in the profession again. I'm confident that this is a coach and staff that will work and hold the players accountable. As long as they got the stink out of the basketball offices I think we'll eventually have some success with this staff. How much this year remains to be seen, but I do still remember when Jans entered as a similarly heralded coach to a similarly decimated program...it was immediately evident the upgrade he made and wins were pretty quick coming as well.

Love it. My expectations are actually sky high. Agee is a stud. We all know Agee is a stud. And now he is playing next to an even better player that compliments him very well. The guards are a menagerie of question marks but I wouldn't be surprised in the slightest if our next Richaun Holmes is on this team.

This is, in my opinion, is the only outlook to have on the season other than just a giant question mark. Not fair to say we're going to be awesome or completely suck, we just don't know. I do know we talked a lot last year about how good the turner/frye/plowden teams could have been if they had Agee. If the backcourt is good and we have some 3 and d's on the wings, we could be really f'ing good this year. Either way, I am absolutely jazzed to watch this season unfold.

The good thing about starting with a new culture is you know you are going to see high effort and energy. I don't think they will fear anyone. Hopefully that transfers to wins, progress over the season, and a strong March finish.

Read on the Orange and Brown blog that Trey Thomas may be out this game and more with an ankle injury. We'll see in an hour, but could be a pretty significant adjustment to the rotation.

I hope you’re right. And if he is that good, I’ll frequent Beckett’s and El Zarape to make sure Coach Simon isn’t slapping any girls behinds

President Rodgers just took a header in the student section.

Losing Spurgin would be a massive blow this early. Hope he's okay.
