I just love the fact that BG basketball, my son's indoor soccer, and the Browns playoff game are all starting within 30mins of one another. It's awesome.

Re: @ NIU (1/13)
Feels like these next 3 against NIU, Miami, and WMU are all very winnable and could be key to our squad's confidence and ability to win the MAC. We'll see what happens, but if we leave this 3 game stretch 14-4 overall and 5-1 in the MAC heading into a home game with Kent State... oh boy.
We have my son's 1st birthday party tomorrow at lunchtime and then I will be settling in to watch this one, as well as keeping tabs on the Browns game. Stay warm this weekend, folks!

I feel like BG is walking straight into a trap in this one. NIU has lost 5 in a row and has dropped 8 of their last 9, with the lone win vs a non-D-1 team. They are 0-3 in the MAC and will be desperate for a win.
GO BG!!!

WE should absolutely win at least 2 of those 3, even with a really short rotation. The 2 after that are the real test.mbenecke wrote: ↑Fri Jan 12, 2024 6:02 pm Feels like these next 3 against NIU, Miami, and WMU are all very winnable and could be key to our squad's confidence and ability to win the MAC. I expect our lack of depth up front to end up putting us decidedly in between the haves and the have nots this year. Clearly a notch below Kent and Akron. Maybe roughly on par with Ohio and TOledo. No idea how Miami will look. Then the Michigan schools, NIU, Ball State, etc... all being clearly in our rear view.
And honestly? For year 1 with a new coach and a crap ton of early injuries? I will take that. I would have been OK with it if everybody had been healthy. Doing it without a real back up PG, and no backup bigs at all?
That's impressive.
Gosh darn it. The program is giving me hope again.

I feel niu is due for a win but maybe they aren't that good. Honestly Kent hasn't been overly impressive. The second spot behind Akron is up for grabs and we can be in the race if we take care of business. This most likely will be a low energy crowd and those sometimes can be the tricky ones. Starting to look forward to the games and getting excited about what this team can do

Another solid half has us up 43-32 at the half. Lot of fouls and free throws so far but niu isn't very deep either. Thomas got 2 fouls in about 5 minutes which let Greer play the rest of the half. Hit a 3 right away then very quiet since. Quiet isn't bad though because he's playing hard and not making mistakes. Keep attacking and we'll be good to go

Got the lead up to 18 but niu has slowly chipped away and now it's down to 8 with 4 minutes left. Need a couple baskets to get it back to double digits

Nice win by 11 on the road and never got closer than 8 on the second half. 46 total fouls without any intentional fouls at the end was ridiculous but we handled it well. Agee completely dominated with 24 points and 9 rebounds

Agee dominated, Hill is a first team all MAC player, and contributions up and down the roster. Phillip with back to back great games. Isn’t it nice to go into games with the better coach?

Spurgin is a 7ft guy with range ...his cardio looks pretty awful. Improve his conditioning and he's going to get paid to play somewhere...in Europe most likely.

Re: @ NIU (1/13)
Every time I think that he could better conditioning I remember were asking him to play 30+ minutes in a run and guun style game. It's actually a testament to the conditioning of all these guys that we have anything at all left in the tank late in these games. Nice to see a solid 8 man rotation today. Maybe Greers lack of PT was more injury related.
Nice win. I saw none of it. And it does nothing to ease the pain of that football debacle, but I still think this BG team has a high ceiling.

It’s January 13 and we have already surpassed last season’s win total, at 12-4.

That's fair...I was judging him based on how he looked after a long break when he was bent over grabbing his shorts to catch his breath. after playing a couple of minutes..But once you can only get so much back, even after sitting. .BTW...sub optimal idea to stoop over to catch your breath. Stand up and put your hands behind your head...opens your lungs morehammb wrote: ↑Sun Jan 14, 2024 12:50 amEvery time I think that he could better conditioning I remember were asking him to play 30+ minutes in a run and guun style game.
