vs. Akron (1/3)

On Friday, January 3, our Falcons (5-7) will host the Akron Zips (7-4) in the MAC opener. The game will begin at 6:00pm, and will be available to watch on CBS Sports Network.

I will just say, I'm always amazed at how often BG has big, important conference games with students off campus for break. This is one where the crowd should be packed and have an impact on the game, but (unless a miracle happens) there will be no students and no band for this one. Same with hockey seemingly always catching Western Michigan over fall break or on a Tuesday or a Sunday, or hosting Ohio State when the football team is in Toledo (so no band) or in January with no students, or hosting Michigan Tech over Thanksgiving break. Or like when football hosts Toledo on a Tuesday night. It's just not right, man. Feels like we never get our good games at the right time, and the crowd cannot fully impact the games that way.

Rant over. Get the win, BG.

Feel free to rant. I agree wholeheartedly, it's such a residential school any events without students or in a scheduling conflict just plain burns us.

There will be a band. North Baltimore High School is playing as the athletic band for Friday and the town is coming, too. It’s not the same, but at least it’s something.

That’s wonderful! I know that’s something they have done in the past. Hockey was missing a band on Sunday, so I figured that would continue to be the case until students were back on campus. Great opportunity for local high school kids!

BG starts HOT.

Falcons lead 10-0 very early. Groce forced to take a timeout.

We were up 17-4, but then came the Zips. It’s 18-16 BG now.

Falcons have missed 13 shots in a row (and counting).

Akron couldn’t make anything, and now they can’t miss anything.

Tied at 25 at the under-4 in the first half.

Competitive half but man we need some guys back. Good thing Thomas got hit because he was the only one that could score for that long stretch.

Much better defensive effort for the Falcons than they've shown most of the year.

Why are these announcers riding Akron’s jock so hard?

It’s pretty obnoxious, but that’s the treatment you “earn” when you’re one of the elite programs in this league for the past decade plus.

Timeout Akron with 2:21 to play, BG leads 65-62.

Akron leads 68-65 with 1:02 to play. Their first lead of the game.

This one is going to sting.

Why was that goal tending?

Frustrating loss, but we competed hard. We’ll win some games in the MAC with that effort. Then again, it felt exactly like the Michigan State game, and it’s not like we took off in the non-conference after that.

These announcers were absolutely absurd all game long. Felt like we got the Akron homer broadcast or something, it was insane. Good riddance.

That energy especially on defense and rebounding is what was needed. Akron made the plays in clutch time and we didn't. Good start to mac play though and much needed performance after the last few games. Having an extra body would have been a huge boost tonight

Announcers and scoreboard operator were not good
