Reasons the community and students aren't attending games?
With football, 28,599 fans is a lot for a town the size of Bowling Green. At times, I understand why the place only has 18,000 or so fans.
However, with the smallest arena in the MAC at 4700, what are reasons this team is playing in front of the worst crowds in the conference?
Seats are close, prices are about the lowest in the league, the arena is right in the middle of campus and the team is in first place.
Explain to me why attendance is still so poor?

Frankly.......
Home attendance at AA is poorest on weekdays like this Wed. for Ball St. I'm guessing there's just more students who have class or have to work at that particular time. Sat's are usually better for student attendance. Which is sad because we need a 4500 like attendance for Ball St. this Wed bad.

Re: Frankly.......
I was going to say the same thing. I have class on both Monday and Thursday nights, so those are bad nights for me. Thank goodness I will be able to go to the game on Wed. because it's been too long since I've been to one! This Saturday, I won't be able to go because I am going to seminars from 8am-2:30pm that relate to my future job. I'm not happy I'm going to miss the game, but sometimes, there are more important things than going to a basketball game.falconboy wrote:Home attendance at AA is poorest on weekdays like this Wed. for Ball St. I'm guessing there's just more students who have class or have to work at that particular time. Another thing that I thought of is if there are other sports events going on that are away and people want to go to them (like for example if hockey has both of their games away a weekend), then the hardcore fans of the other sports might be at those games instead.
I usually go to every game I possibly can go to. But, I have no life really. Well, except to go to games.
I'm gonna stop talking now

They started handing shirts out for the womens game early in the day that is why there were very few shirts available when the mens game actually started. You had to get there early to support the womens team if you really wanted to get a shirt.BGDrew wrote:Hockey usually is giving something away every home game. I can only think of the UT game where a very limited amount of shirts were handed out.
But who wants a white BG shirt? I don't care what the pattern on the front is, spend some money and get some orange and brown!!!BGSUFALCON07 wrote: They started handing shirts out for the womens game early in the day that is why there were very few shirts available when the mens game actually started. We must remember the prime reason we are here at BGSU. Which is to get an education. Things like classes, homework, and papers take up a lot of time. Add to that the fact that tuition is going up each year thanks to our representatives in Columbus thinking Universities waste money and therefore cut what little money we get and you have more students that need to get a job in order to pay for school. Than finally, in my opinion the marketing department has done the very least to promote athletic events. Now on to the rest of the community. Again poor marketing comes into play here. We MUST do better in that area. We have a local kid and we are not taking advantage of it, and we haven't for the past three years! Parkng is also an issue for games during the week. The lot by the library is for Falcon Club passes and those who get there early. But, there are still faculty that teach classes and park in that lot. There are many commuters who are parked behind the music building and health center. I believe this turns many fans away from week night games. I see only one option. Basketball parking for all of those not having a Falcon Club parking pass needs to be at the Ice Arena or Field House. The athletic department should then provide shuttle busses to bring fans in to Anderson Arena. Maybe consistent transportation and parking will bring some more fans in. Thats short term. In the long run that is why I believe the fesability study on Anderson Arena will come back recommending a replacement facility out by the stadium and more importantly next to parking.

As for myself, Wednesday nights ARE, and have always been horrible for me. Sometimes I'm done by 8PM, so I get to show up for the second half of the Wed. games, but that's rare. I can usually make the weekend games, and I usually do. As for the general public around here, I really don't know. Sorry that that's all I've got, but I wanted to put in my vote. For the record, I've got enough T-shirts too. Give out something else, ANYTHING, but enough with the T-shirts. Thanks for the interest, Jeff
Then purchase an Anderson Animal shirt and have a brown one for all the games!!!momtartin wrote:I agree. I want more Orange and Brown. Excellent points made. However, I do not think it is fair when there are week games and when I have purchased a parking pass to go to class and I am unable to use the pass. As you mentioned education should come before athletics and students and faculty should be able to use that lot on game nights for educational use. Finally in 04 wrote:We must remember the prime reason we are here at BGSU. Are we talking about the FACULTY/STAFF lot? You're right that Faculty/Staff working on game nights should be able to use that lot.BGSUFALCON07 wrote:However, I do not think it is fair when there are week games and when I have purchased a parking pass to go to class and I am unable to use the pass.
