I would be more interested to see the home average, per season, for M.A.C. games only. For some reason I can give the townies or students or whichever group is shiek to blame this week for not wanting to attend Tiffin U. or Blufton games. . . Now missing an Urbana, tilt, that's a crime.

Also, at tonight's game I was greated by a cheery faced coed telling me "ESPN will be here Saturday" handing me a 1/4 sheet of card stock with Saturday's game info,. on it. Good efforts, but guess what, the people that come to the games know about the next game, generally. We don't need to be handing sheets out to people already coming, remind us, yes, but hand out the sheets around town or in the union. . .

And it isn't 'free'. . .my grad. school tuition waiver unfortunately doesn't cover my activities fees but luckily I'm ripping the school off by working out so much at the rec... ummm yeah that's it.

Free, now thats funny. Students pay about $700.00 a year in fees that could go to things like the health center but instead go to Athletics. Saying students get into games free is so ironic.....

F04, do you ever shut up? Seriously. We are no different from any other university, and no, our athletic budget is not magically going to end up funding research professors and grad programs.

When I was a student I thought of it as this: That money was for my education. I don't care where it went, I got school for that.

The rec & sporting events were free bonuses after you paid your tuition.

Yep, sucks that that BG requires students to pay for the athletic department. Listening to NPR the other day, and heard that not only to UK students not pay a fee for athletics, but the AD gives the University 1mill a year for stuff like health center and scholarships. But then again we have to pay 5$ for basketball or football tickets.

Comparing how MAC teams run their athletic departments to how the semi-pro leagues do is wasting your time. If BG students don't pay for the athletic department there is no athletic department.

We don't have multi-million $ TV deals. We cannot sell out 20k seat basketball arenas for any amount we ask per ticket. We cannot sell out 100k seat football stadiums for $40+ per ticket. BG will never be able to do these things. For those reasons we will have to ask students to foot the bill for athletics, sorry.

$700!? That's it!? Okay, when I was a student I was able to take advantage of these perks:

Golf Course year round membership: $225 vs $525...$300 savings
2 Semester Rec Center membership: $0 vs $100 per semester for alum...$200 savings
5 home football games: $50
10 home basketball games: $90
10 home hockey games: $90

That's just off the top of my head and relating solely to the athletics. I'm sure there are plenty of other places that those general fees save some cash. In total I saved $730 for my $700 general fee. I rounded down on the number of games, just in case I missed a couple, and I also left out perks like discount prices to UAO concerts, etc.

If I could pay the $700/year and get all the perks mentioned above, I'd gladly do so.

20$ what a great deal. Tickets are almost 40 dollars now for general admission, Oh and by the way good luck finding parking, the stadium lot is only reserved the blue bloods around here. I think they are 5 bucks for a student. but I doubt my wife would let me go without her, therefore, we don't go. Though I might shell it out, to see UM's gators in person this year.

Hammb, completly understand the reason. However I still disagree with it. I would much rather see BG be able to charge 5$ for students to see the game, and at least make some more money that way. However with the poor turnout at games, I know this would only hurt attendence.

That's just it. It's NOT an option. If you charge $5 for students to see the game you won't have any students seeing the games. BG is not an SEC environment. If the student fees don't pay for the athletic department we don't have an athletic department.
