Disclamer: Ok i haven't done the whole look for this topic before i post it, but i'm going to bet it hasn't been brought up yet... sorry if it has.

Hey seems like everyone is out there talking about our lack of fans, and our post game coach's show, that we have lost how important Austin was in that game!!! Wow did he pick it up yesterday... i had no idea he could do some of those things. Way to go Austin!

Austin and Moon were huge in the first half. Absolutely.

The chant the Animals did after Austin DROVE for the 3-pt play was priceless!!

I thought Austin should have gotten the "Cowboy-up" award yesterday. Come'on Klassen!!! ;-)

Seeing him fight for some steals and charge in for some rebounds was odd. Watching him make baskets was even more odd. But I enjoyed it none the less. He does have talent and heart or he wouldn't be on the team right now. I think he is just learning as time goes on and hopefully he will be a great player by the time he's done here.

Of course, he could have read all of bad comments about him on here and used them for motivation. If that's the case, YOU STILL SUCK AUSTIN!

Thanks for bringing it up. It's something I wanted to post here today, as well. Austin has been the subject of quite a lot of ridicule, and generally with good reason. However, I'm more than willing to give him some props on his performance last night. He made some gritty plays in traffic for rebounds/steals, and he made a fantastic 3 point play when he drove the lane.

I think he also did a good job cutting off a screen to get a good, open look for his other bucket of the evening. In all I think he played a very good first half.

Now why he didn't play a second of the second half is a mystery, but he performed admirably when called upon.

Let's not get too caught up in drinking the Austin kool-aid. His defense was still pretty bad. Thought I better bring this back to making some sense.

DD was critical of himself on the radio show last night for not getting Austin into the mix in the second half. I thought the kid did a helluva job. If there's more of that play in there Austin, bring it on.

I think we change lineups too much. Between BG and BSU subs last night, it reminded me more of the Spy vs. Spy in Mad magazine --- OK, you do that, I'm doing this. Seemed to really screw up the tempo of the game at both ends of the floor. It was a hard game to watch

As to lousy defense -- you can have John Floyd -- He gets props for going on the floor but he goes on the floor because he's so far out of position on defense.

Like Floyd, Austin will never be a shutdown defender. He doesn't have the athleticism. But that's not the role that Austin was brought here to fill either. He is supposed to be a scorer. Somebody who comes off screens for open jumpers, and knocks them down. Somebody who cuts in the lane and can get a 3 point play perhaps. Somebody who can drill the open 3 when we need it late in a game.

In short, Austin was brought here to be the next John Reimold. Play hard on defense, but contribute the most on offense.

He looked a helluva lot closer to being that player last night than he has in the past year and a half. I hope that he is able to back up that sort of play with another similar performance. Like it or not, we will likely be looking towards him next season to get us some points.

Thought coach could have given Reimold a blow by giving Austin a couple of looks in the second half like he did in the first - John was so tired at one point he almost missed the rim on that free throw.

Ball State was running in platoons of replacements.

Yeah, Austin did show a slight flash of what I had though all along he would be when he came here. But its likely that it will be another 20 games before we see him play anything lilke he did in the Ball St. game.
