I'm sickened...

Post by Metz »

..to come back from the game and see all these negative comments about how bad the game went. These seniors had great careers and that is most important. It really doesn't matter where we are in the tournament, as long as we are there we have a shot. Sure a bye means a better chance but if they are going to win it, they will win it. Congrats to all the seniors and the team for changing almost everyone's minds about the season and proving that teams can overcome anything! GO FALCONS!!!

I agree McMetz, our seriors left it on the floor every night, win or lose.

Hey McMetz, did they announce at the game today that BG would host a home game, because that is not true no more..... Too complicated to explain, but if Akron wins they win the east, and Ball State would then win the tie breaker over us, sending us to the #9 seed. Was wondering what they announced at the game.

Yeah, I believe it was said we did. I was a little emotionally unsatisfied after the game though so I might have just been hearing things...

Name one senior who did not leave it all on the floor every night? Ever.

If we are not negative, atleast sometimes (especially when a team has a bye in their hands and loses 3 of 4 to close out the season) than our positive times are meaningless. Like Milhouses mom telling him he was cool. Just like the phrase all of these seniors left everything on the floor every night. Thats meaningless. Has there been a class that didnt leave it on the floor every night. Its coach speak. As fans we are allowed to be critical of players and how they play. It is not ok to be critical of the players as people based off there play but as players it is. ANd if ever there was a time to be negative this would be it.

Well WSPD, Ball Sate radio Network, FSN, and WBGU all said we could drop to #9 seed, and the way it is going now it could happen.

These could be the standings

1. Akron 12-6
2. Toledo 11-7
3. Miami 11-7
4. Western 11-7
5. Ohio 11-7
6. Buffalo 11-7
7. Kent 11-7
8. Ball State 10-8
9. BG 10-8

We could have easily had the number one seed in this tournament. This is horrible. Now we play a foe with a similar record instead of the also rans like Central Michigan....oh wait

yeah yeah...I'm sickened that we come back to beat a pretty good Miami team and then we show nothing by getting crushed by Western Mich. and lose to Central Mich on our own floor! If it's true that BG will be playing a road game on Monday for a chance to play at the Gund there are plenty of reasons to groan and moan. Seniors played great this season but this isn't the way you want to be playing if you plan on going to Cleveland.

Frankly, I don't really care who doesn't like the complaining on here. So if you are one of those people, please skip this message and don't bother bitching to me later you didn't like what I had to say. I'm saying it now - I'm pissed, disappointed and yes, complaining....so if you don't like it - stop reading now and search ahead for a feel-good message....this is not one of them.

I'm pissed because I care....a lot. Probably too much, but that's on me. And it's not even so much this loss today, it's more like the 37 years of frustration for BG fans, coupled with the 12 years I've been associated with the program. I'm just tired of BG basketball being so average all the time. As bad as a team or program as CMU is now, they beat us today and have been to the NCAA Tournament as recent as a couple years ago. In fact, I believe nearly every team in the MAC (minues Buffalo I believe) has been to the NCAAs once if not multiple time since our last shot in 1968. That is very frustating in itself.

I love the guys on our team who bust their asses for BG. I will never take that away from any of them. But games where it's senior day, you're playing a team at home you should win with home court seeding on the line, those are the type of games that seperate good teams/programs from the ones who want and try to be good. We're just not there yet, again. I will though, give this team credit for being far better than I or a lot of people on here thought they'd be this year. But we still should have won this game today.

With the last two years of bad basketball, and thinking about next season with what we lose in just seniors, there's probably added pressure to do well now. We're not out of anything yet, I know that. But I'll tell you what, the way we're now playing, the end feels very, very near. We were playing our best basketball several weeks ago....and we may be playing our worst right now and that's not what you want at this time of the season.

I totally agree with you BGSU33. Central Michigan had one road win coming into this game. Central is a horrible, horrible teram and we found a way to lose to them. I didn't see us playing with a sense of urgency today at all, or any emotion the past 2 games. What a great way to start the MAC tourney!!!

Great post, 33. I think this is the 3rd straight year that we've finished at 10-8 in the MAC. With Akron getting waxed in the 2nd half by Buffalo, I think we need OU to win at Kent State to avoid a road game. 3 days ago we were talking about winning the West and now we probably have to go to Muncie, where we lost by 20 earlier this year.

The most frustrating thing about today is that we played very poorly, but still managed to get a 10 point lead in the 2nd half and then we let a backup guard drop two straight 3 balls on us to keep the game close. Central made everything in the last 5 minutes.

Nine seed, two seed, one seed...what the hell difference does it make? This team is playing like it knows it's dead.

Yep, it's great that everyone gave it thier all, they left it on the floor, gave 110%, they were soldiers, warriors and a veritable pack of junkyard dogs. None of that means a damn thing when you can't put a LOUSY team away when you have a 10 point lead with 10 minutes to go on your own floor.

Hard work and effort are the minimum. When tournament time rolls around, you'd better be bringing a lot more than that.

This season, no matter how it ends and when, has still been more than I probably could have asked for. I do want to say that much again. After back-to-back losing seasons, a winning season is always good in many ways.

Today was just frustrating because of what we had on the line and it was without a doubt a game we should have won. In all honesty, if I had to hand pick a team to play at home in a must win game, I would have chosen CMU. It's not like we were facing Duke or North Carolina and lost at home, this was 3-17 CMU. Considering what we had on the line, it made the loss hurt that much more. With everything going on today working against us in the MAC (but with only ourselves to blame), it looks like our last hope is for Ohio to beat Kent State to allow us to "backdoor" into the home seeds as best I can tell. But if we do that, we'll have one heck of a road ahead of us. I guess we'll find out at about 8:00.

33, well stated. I feel very sorry for our super senior group. They are classy people. To see Cory Eyink postgame was absolutely amazing. This young man loves Dan Dakich. Like a father. He is fine young man and a credit to BG basketball. Likewise, Almanson (what a student also) and Reimold (tougher than nails).

Having said that, we just lost to a horrible team. I knew we were in trouble when Barrett/#1 started making shots for CMU. The kindest thing I can say about his shot is it is unusual. And he makes a huge three and a couple foul shots. Follows that by getting his layup rejected and- somehow- the ball ends up back in his hands. Scores. Very frustrating.

We seemed very tired and a step slow. I won't call CMU's team super athletic, but they are more athletic than us. Absolutely. And PG frosh Watson? Boy, this kid can score. He can shoot it. No offense to any of our players, but I wish our football coaches would have tipped our bball guys when they watched our DE Mack at the same prep school in Maine.

We look tired.

We need to sleep, prepare and win Monday. I wish the boys all the best. And there is no reason why we can't win through this draw. Beat Ball state and we play Miami right? Fine with me. Beat Ball State!

Go Falcons!
