...in this morning's Dayton Daily News. Go out in my 'jammies, get the paper off the drive, pour myself a bowl of Lucky Charms, and pull out the sports sections.
Front page.....Mmmm... Seems UD coach Brian Gregory is upset the A-10 has lousy RPI ratings. St. Joe's their top ranked team at #71 and UD is ranked #108 ahead of #137 Xavier. Oh, here's a big article about the Wright State women's team getting their heads handed to them by Wisconsin-Green Bay.
Second page....Mmmmm... Jack Nicklaus is not going to play in the Masters. He is greiving about his 17 month old grandson. Serious article...need to know human interest stuff. OooohhhhAhhhhhh. Ohio trapshooters are excited about their new home.
Page Three......NHL labor talks to resume;Tiger Woods playing good golf (like I did not know that)...rest of Brian Gregory crying about RPI rankings.
Page Four.....Now here is a big artcile (1/3 of the page) about the Horizon League (Wright State). Seems it is an exciting but average league. Illini still No. 1, Temple women win A-10 tourny,
HEY...HERE AT THE BOTTOM OF PAGE FOUR.. SIX PARAGRAPGH ARTICLE ABOUT MIAMI.....Seems they are not going to let the #1 seed go to their heads - does say they play BG - but no mention how BG got to the Game at the Gund
Page Five.....Box scores and all that other fine print stuff..... Oh well lookie there... There are five little lines in the middle of the box scores (no box scores mind you) giving us the scores of the MAC first round games. And there were FOUR, count them FOUR, teams from Ohio. And if you count Muncie being within a hour of Dayton, there are five teams of local interest.
What gives......Brian Gregory cries about RPI ratings for the A-10 and the following MAC teams played last night and got no press....
Akron - RPI of 40
Bowling Green - RPI of 99
Ball State - - RPI of 100
Buffalo - RPI of 35
Kent State - RPI of 37
Ohio - RPI of 58
(All RPI ratings courtesy of www.collegerpi.com)
Brian Gregory and the Dayton Daily News can bite my.......
So I wanted to read about last night's MAC games.....

You think YOU'VE got it bad??? Try the Cleveland PD. When the women won the regular season championship, they had all the women's MAC scores except the BG score. When the Men beat Miami, they didn't even have a box score. And of course they only mention them if they lose...but they couldn't even put their names on the paper after that CMU loss, it was just CMU 71 and......nothing. Nothing's worse than a crappy paper, that's half the reason I hang here when I'm not doing school or working (or out biking or golfing

Yeah, I thought the Dealer's coverage of the last night's games wasn't too bad. They also mention "ryemold's" point total being second highest in the tournament.

Ink will increase in the Dayton Daily News once Miami starts playing.
I just find it funny - in a sad way- that UD's coach is crying about them and the A10 not getting any love. This town goes bonkers over the Flyers (except for me). The MAC has a boat load of teams in the top 100 of the RPI ratings and we get nothing, while Gregory gets more ink than you can shake a blotter at.
Dayton is a basketball town and we have went to the opening game of the NCAA tournament the last two years. Which is normally a sell-out as is almost EVERY UD game. They get hugh corporate sponsorship and lots of corporate season ticket holders. I would hate to hear them cry if they were stuck in a small town like BG or Oxford.
