Anyone listen to the interview with Dan Dakich on the radio this afternoon at 4:30. Some very interesting comments.

1. Fitch is done for the year, even sounds like possibly his career is over. Dakich was asked if Fitch is would play any more this year and his response. "Fitch is done. Fitch will not play anymore. I am tired of talking about Fitch. Fitch is done."

2. Dakich said that even though the crowd was small last night it was very knowledgable and praised the kids who were sitting behind the basket waving their arms, this is where the band usually sits. Then he went on to say that the band is dead. The band is never energetic and doesnt get into the games. He said he wishes the band would yell and scream more and wave their arms but they dont. Then a few minutes later he said he shouldnt made that comment because he would hear back from members of the band, and said he wished he never said that. Then he said BG has the best band in the MAC. Trying to earn brownie points. He did mention Grant's name!!!!!

I did hear his comments . Mondays at 4:30 (his usual air time on the Ticket) are Must Hear Radio IMO. Usually it is the funniest 10-15 minutes of radio you'll listen to, especially since Dibbs is now off of The Dan Patrick Show.

He was a little harsh, but fair on the band. I have noticed they do raise their instruments and try to distract the free-throw shooter, but he said that at times they are sitting two or three people apart and not paying attention. He also said that at WMU people behind the hoop had a "kid's windmill" I am assuming a pinwheel, to distract the shooter. . .

After realizing by complimenting the energetic kids that he had trashed the band to some minor extent he made up for it by complimenting them and saying Grant Cummings used to run the band and he is one of my friends so I am sure I'll hear it. . .

No harm.

No foul.

Did you hear the comments from his post game conference last night. Sure sounds like Fitch career at BG is over. For sure this year, but Dakich used to say Fitch was the hardest player on the team, was like a son, and now he doesnt even want to talk about him. Does not sound good for Fitch. What do you think DD

Yeah, when he says things like that it makes me feel like he only gave me that fan of the year mention so I would no longer be upset about his comments towards the BG News or for yelling at me for taking pictures. When he gives out the band member of the year award, I will now know why...

Well I think the band needs to really wave their arms and scream Thursday night. Maybe then Dakich will know that someone heard his comments on the radio.

Not true. You are fan of the year. Grant is fan of the decade.

I know Grant Cummings. Grant Cummings is a friend of mine. You, my friend, are no Grant Cummings.

Who know Dakich was a political speechwriter for the 2000 campaign!?!?

TG- that is pretty rich humor, I like that- the reference plays right into the quote.. brilliant.

If what you say is true, then one can see why DD must have a tough time talking about him.

Give it time. Who knows what will happen.

I may get shot down on this but ...

I'd like to hear the band play the HEY cheer at sporting events again. I know why it got banned ... it's the dreaded HEY ... YOU SUCK thing. I mean, puh-lease, my 11-year-old nephew hears worse in middle school in Nitro, WV, than the dreaded "S" word. Oh well ... just my opinion. I know that cheer doesn't exactly scream sportsmanship, but I always got a kick out of all the students yelling it. I'd rather hear HEY ... YOU SUCK than the F### MONTOYA cheers I heard at the UM Hockey Game earlier this season.

BG's band should be like Ball State's. Ball State's cheers, chants, does everything, they are fun to watch and listen to.

You are not going to hear any argument from me that the band is not energtic enough. I spent two years in the A Band, and I know that there are games that you just don't want to be there. In my four years the band has never really been apart of the crowd. They've done their part to keep the crowd excitied and hopping, but almost never are they apart of the crowd. I think part of it the band students having to "behave". I recall a speech of something along the lines of "We are representing ourselves, the CMA, the Athletic Dept and BGSU. Anything negative on our part reflects negativly on BGSU, and as such we must always be on our best behavior." That is the kind of speech that for whatever reason kills enthuisam (no I can't speel, git over it). I truly wish the band took a more active roll in cheering for the team and becoming a part of the crowd. However too often the band does only what is required of them and is unwilling to do more. There are obvious exceptions (Metz, Flicc, myself, and others) but for the most part, the band doesn't do enough in the lines of cheering at games.
