Worst CBS announcer

I think the worst CBS announcer has to be Billy Packer. I was really enjoying watching the Duke - MSU game yesterday but in the second half several times Billy was complaining about the non-calls that Duke did not receive. I really think CBS needs to look into this. I am sure I am not the only one tired of Billy Packer. Last year Billy pretty much called out St Joseph's coach said that his team was not very good and didn't deserve a #1 seed because they play in a week conference. At the Big 10 tournament Packer was putting down the play of the Illinois team, the next day after their coach lost his mother, saying they were not playing like the same team earlier in the year.

I think Billy needs to go. CBS got rid of Pat Summerall for a while. CBS got rid of Pat O'Brien in the late 1980s after some of his comments. I just think it is time for CBS to pull the plug on Packer.

I've never been a fan of Packer's. Al McGuire was much better.

My roommate, pardonfan, and I noticed the same thing. Maybe they could have Packer do some other games, but I have never really liked him so canning him wouldn't be too bad.

My favorite Billy Packer story....

We were at the Ratheskelter in Chapel Hill. It was a few days before a big Carolina game against who knows (in Chapel Hill, all Carolina games are BIG). Anyway, as we are walking out of the restaraunt (about five or six of us), someone yells "Hey! There's Billy Packer."

Half of the people in our group mumbled "Who cares" and we all walked out.

Billy Packer ran away from John-Boy (of the John Boy and Billy Radio Show) at the ACC Torunament in Greensboro one year because John Boy kept calling him "Mr. Cash" during an on-air interview. At that time, Packer was doing commercials seen throughout North Carolina for Mr. Cash (similar to Mr. Sebo's little business).

Wow, I'm not the only one that noticed this. I guess he had Duke advancing to the next round. I had to turn the volume off because I was tired of the whining.

I agree. I was really ticked off at the end of the Duke game when he said something similar to this "people often complain how Duke gets all the calls, well they are not getting the calls right now" This after JJ Reddick clearly charged into a Miss St player. It was a good call and he commented on how they were not get any calls.

Billy Packer and Brent Moooooseburger can both get stuffed.

and they can tell Eye-in (Ian) Eagle to pronounce his name correctly. . .and Colin Powell for that matter.

Yeah, he has really ruined it for those of us with the name Colin, It's not pronounce COLON.

At this point I'm pretty tired of ALL announcers doing games for CBS. The traditional annoyances mentioned above, Raftery is getting almost as bad as Vitale with the repetitive "catch phrases", and some of the other guys (Eagle, especially) are just annoying to listen to. Everything has to be screamed, from tip to buzzer, and if I hear how a player diving after a loose ball and calling a timeout as he falls out of bounds is a "great timeout", I'm going to hurt someone.

I think Raftery cut off his partner during one game just so he could say his stupid "and Podunk State opens in a man-to-man". :x

Yeah, and I hate how Trumpy was saying that if Kosar had his right foot back it was going to be a pass...oh, sorry, wrong network.

Billy Packer sucks. He thinks he is an authority because he played at Wake Forest 100 years ago, well that was then. In his prime the worst player in Division 3 today would run circles around him- people are more athletic and tall on the average today. What is he, 5'8? That may have been tall back then, but today it should be his cue to STFU and let Jim Nantz get a word in once in a while. Personally, I like Ian Eagle, when I am at home I watch him all the time on the NJ Nets telecasts....he is their play-by-play announcer. Raftery can be eccentric, but I think he is fun to listen to. My personal favorite is Gus Johnson, I just love the energy he brings to a broadcast.

Not to get off of the subject on a board dedicated to BG Hoops (I don't want the Internet Gestapo after me), but Trumpy may have been the most biased announcer ever if he was doing a Bengals game. It was so obvious I began to feel sorry for how pathetic he sounded. But, you can love Bob, if you like.

Come on leave Trumpy alone. Him and Lapham have been through hell the past 8yrs covering the Bengals. But now their back on track and Restoring the Roar in Cincy! WHO DEY!
