From another post about a comment from DD....."He spent the next two or three minutes rambling about how the "internet guys perceive a problem with our team b/c so and so wants to transfer." He mentioned that he didn't know people would throw that big of a fit over losing a guy "that only averaged 2 points a game (Montgomery) and that the "only thing I'll talk about concerning VanderMeer is that it was a 'mutual agreement' on the decision to transfer."

-- It's not just the point of just these last two leaving...it's been the continuing trend, YEAR AFTER YEAR, of the number of guys leaving...that's what has us "internet guys" so concerned!!! In all honesty, I'm probably not going to miss Montgomery that much, and VanderMeer might have been a good one but I guess we'll have to see though with him at another school. But these two just add to the numbers of many others who have left in recent years. Meanwhile, our record the last several years has reflected some of this.

The thing that's really irritating to me is (and I know I'm not alone), our basketball program defections (for whatever reason they may be) has us looking more like BG-JUCO than BGSU. That's what bothers me. We're like a pipeline for other colleges the way we've been supplying players year after year to others schools. Get guys who WANT and WILL be Falcons, or don't bring them in at all. I know players transfer at other schools and it's part of the process and transfers happen everywhere. But look at the 300-plus teams across the country and tell me a program that has lost more players in the last three or four years than us? Even after what happened at Baylor last year, they might not even top us. I know we're not UNC, Duke or Kentucky but damn, if Prairie View A&M can retain players, then why the hell can't we? :ugh: "Something" is wrong with our program and the years upon years upon years of NCAA Tournament droughts and now all these players transferring away to other schools is getting very, very old.

BGSU33 , I share your pain man. DD has to examine his recruiting philosophy or something and get it together. Though I am concerned about DD's lack of concern over these transfers that has become a distrubing trend over these last 4 years.

Exactly, and I'm not even going to pretend I know exactly what the issues or problems are with our program - but it's obvious something(s) is not right. I, like many of you, have my ideas of what the problems are....but I think it's a combination of a lot of things that I'm not even going to get into to because their just my opinions. But I'll tell you this much, I've just grown so tired of it already - to the point of where it's starting to get embarrassing for my school as a proud alum and fan. Again, I know guys transfer all the time, everywhere, but we've had an alarming rate in recent years and with the exception of this past season, we've really fallen out of the top-tier group of teams in the MAC during that time.

There are hundreds of D-I recruits every year out there. Some guys like coaches who run a very disciplined team, others like coaches who are laid back, other strive for something in between. Some like offenses that runs-and-gun, others like to play a half-court set, etc. There are players out there that are suited to play with what we've got at BG right now with DD and his system. We need to find and land these kind of kids I'd have given my left nut to have been able to suit up and play D-I ball at BG - and if I'm a coach - that's the kind of player I'm looking for here. Because I'll tell you what....if you give me a program that plays hard and compete together but loses, I'll take that any day over a program with bad chemistry between players, coaches and what have you that always seems to be in turmoil. And right now, I'm not sure which one we have at BG?

I hope like hell all these new guys will come in an compete, work their tails off and can experience success as a Falcons. But I can't blame anyone for wondering how long they'll stay or who is going to leave next after what we've become accustom to going through the last few years. These guys can be the new wave of good things to come for BG, or they can follow in the footsteps of some very good players that have hurt our program by leaving and going elsewhere. I hope it's the first part, but only time will tell.

I worked hard to figure that out. I'm going to keep using that stuff.

St. Francis University Continues To Add Talent

St. Francis University, an NAIA school in Joliet, IL, has rapidly assembled one of the best recruiting classes in its history in the course of the past few weeks. Longtime St. Francis coach Pat Sullivan added to it recently by receiving a commitment from 6'4 Chris Hobson from Blue Island, IL.

Hobson becomes the second member of St. Francis' 2005 recruiting class to transfer there from a D1 school, as he was previously at Bowling Green University. Hobson played his high school basketball at Eisenhower High School in Blue Island.

Earlier, St. Francis received a commitment from 6'2 Mike Smith from Palos Heights, IL, who transferred from the University of Illinois-Chicago. Illinois Prep Bulls-eye extends its congratulations to everyone at St. Francis on an outstanding recruiting class.
