I wonder how much of our good recruiting is due to new Assistant Coach LaMonta Stone, formerly of O'Brian's Buckeye staff. I'll bet he's played a significant role, especially with our Michigan recruits.

Can we keep guys like him? We've been losing assistant coaches from what looks like paying them low salaries.

I think we've made some headway in increasing the salaries of our assistant football coaches. I hope we've also doing the same thing in basketball and other sports.

I always enjoyed the segments on the Dan Dakich Show where LaMonta was shown giving coaching tips to young kids, often to his and Coach Dakich's sons. He seems like a super nice guy.

salsa, keeping good assistants has been and will be a difficult chore at Bowling Green and other MAC schools. Money is one thing, but the "major" conferences are viewed as another step up on the way to a head coaching job- at a lower level then the climb begins again. At least that is the dream of many. More money certainly helps, but good ones may not be here long.

I have had the pleasure of speaking with LaMonta Stone several times and he is a very impressive young coach. The latest was on campus with some friends of mine whose son was considering Bowling Green. I introduced the family to LaMonta and he spent several quality minutes with them. He did an excellent job communicating with this high school student. I am sure he is very effective with recruits and I hope Sullivan and Clements can help us.

I would agree that our Michigan recruiting ties (previously very, very tenuous at best) are quite stengthened with this very professional person on staff.

Let me just say, working with Coach Stone, he is a great guy to be around. He's always in an upbeat mood and he's just a fun guy to talk to because of his knowledge and background.

Also, he indeed has been instrumental in opening avenues for us recruiting in Michigan and mainly the greater Detroit area. He's been a huge part of our success recruiting this season.

Still, it is a team effort between, Coach Dakich, Pepelea, Stone and Richer and I'm pretty excited with the kids we're bringing in.

If these Michigan guys we happend to get came here because of Stone , who's to say they only came here becuase of him and him alone. Stone is leaving and now they might freak once they find out how Dakich is. I hate to say it , but it this smells like transfers could possibley happen again. I hope I'm totally off base.

JUST MY OPINION...From someone who saw big Nate play back in the day...get rid of DD (and his "slow motion " or "no motion" offense) and give the team to Stone. Not only might we keep those Michigan kids but we might also see some exciting 21st century basketball instead of that God awful 1950's crap DD runs. Watching that offense is about as exciting as being forced to watch the movie Hoosiers over and over.

FWIW, I could watch Hoosiers over and over again... and on several occasions, I have.

I would LOVE to see stone at the helm here at BGSU. Maybe if he does leave we can get him back next year after we part ways with Dakich. Unless DD leaves fot DePaul. In that case i would offer Stone the job the very next day. If not DD may try to come back and we could get stuck with him AGAIN!!!!!

Maybe Dayon could whip somethin' up for ya' Mike.

Dan should have been in "Hoosiers". I think he would have added a lot to "The Fish that Saved Pittsburgh" as well.

I think we play a style of basketball that isn't always pleasing to watch, but I don't think we should measure our coaches on their entertainment value.
