Eyewitness Info on a Couple Incomers

A number of posts in the past few months have dealt with some of our incoming players. I have just heard from Jersey Falcon who tells me that Nick Wilson is indeed quite an athlete. He saw Trenton NJ Central several times and characterized Wilson as a definite "high flyer". Tremendous leaper and a quick slasher. Said he plays some defense which I believe has been mentioned before. He felt Wilson might be a help as soon as next year if he comes in ready to go.

Up Detroit way, a couple guys think Lionel Sullivan could turn out to be quite a steal- as in, potentially, an All- MAC type player down the road. In addition to the rugged rebounding mentioned, they said he can score from the block and plays bigger than 6'6". Same guys say Clements is a tough kid who could play several positions.

Several have mentioned Marschall who seems to be the true coaches kid who, while very talented, wants to do whatever it takes to win. He could be a big help. A guy told me Austin could be a little taller Esterkamp later, but needed strength. I think that was mentioned also as he seemed rather thin in the photos other posted.

When you add in the JC scorer and the Serb, we will have quite an influx of players. Potentially, I would think you could see a redshirt on one of those freshmen. And I guess we still have a grant; I know time is running down, but I heard we were still out looking. Should be an interesting year.

Go Falcons!

Just reread my post and see I still have "Austin" Montgomery on my mind. Our other kid is Holland and that's the name I meant to use.

Hey, they're both from Indiana!

Go Falcons!

With all the talent we appear to have coming in, I'm still wondering who if any will get red-shirted. I really have high hopes for the team but honestly I have them every year. That's just because I love basketball though but hopefully these new recruits can get us a new banner sometime!!!

mcmetz, I would think if there was ever a year where a redshirt might be used, it would be this one. We have a lot of players in one year and we could "move" one to next year while they work to improve etc. Looking at our returning players etc, perhaps Holland would be a candidate as a player who could be very tough later with strength. Plus it helps balance the classes.

Remember Coach has said numerous times that Cory Eyink (and others) would have benefitted from a redshirt year and he wishes he had followed that route with a couple of players.

I definitely would like to see at least one of the players redshirted. This sounds like a talented class and maybe a redshirt would keep them here at BG another year :D Your guess is as good as mine when it comes to who gets a redshirt though!

FF1, thanks for the post. Good info.

The redshirting brings up an interesting ideas...I wonder if a year without constant game pressure for a new freshmen might help them not lose the coach's faith (which does seem to sometimes happen), and might help keep them around longer.

Just an idea.
