Lamonta recruited half of this class. If Dan would move on after this year would this count as Lamontas first recruiting class?

He could have recruited every single person it still would not be his recruiting class. All the credit goes to the Head Coach.

Hiring LaMonta Stone is one of the best moves Dakich has made in his time at BG. The man can recruit the state of Michigan better than just about anyone out there, hence his meteoric rise through the profession and previous position at Ohio State.

Not only did Stone recruit this entire class, but he also found the time to discover a vaccine for polio this Summer! Does he deserve some credit for this recruiting class? Absolutely! He is part of the coaching staff so he definitely played a part in recruiting this class. Ultimately, not one of these kids came to BG to play for an assistant coach! Dakich is the head coach and if they didn't want to play for him they wouldn't be coming here.

I'm more than willing to criticize DD when things go wrong in the program, and no one seems to wonder if it might be someone else's fault. Hiring LaMonta Stone was a good thing to do, and he deserves credit for what goes right.

So if I'm wrong saying we will have a 20 win season and these 8 new guys are terrible, who's fault is it? What if they leave the program after a year, who's fault is that? Everyone would blame DD for that, but ya now what, the same guy that brought in these recruits is still going to coach them and no offense to Coach Stone, just another perspective, but could be a reason they leave for all we know. None of us honestly know for a fact that DD is the reason any of these kids have left the program.
Some one can go ahead and say something about me sucking up now, I'm used to that one by now. But honestly, you are all giving credit to one man, but you are going to blame another man for the problems. It's so easy to point the finger without seeing the B!G (I had to) picture! Coach Stone should get credit for recruiting, but if things go wrong with "his class," all of your fingers better be pointing at him if you want to call it his recruiting class...

So we dont recruit in Detroit and then all of a sudden we hire a guy who brings us 4 recruits from the area one of which is a 3* player and one who is a Juco all american and we are not suppossed to give credit to the newly arrived guy with ties to that area?

Let's look back at a extremely well crafted post in a previous thread, shall we?

He's a steal, having been signed at UVA... Much credit to LaMonta Stone and all the staff for getting some exciting young faces!!
Note the phrase "and all the staff."

Who recruited/hired Stone? That was most likely Dan's call.
If Dan will take the blame give him some credit to. I'm sure Stone was instrumental in landing these guys. But I'm also sure that if they don't work out it will be Dan who takes all the criticism. The coaching staff, along with the players, form a team. Dan is the head of that team, and he will take the brunt of the criticism and the accolades.
With the group of kids he & his staff have brought in, I think its time to give him some kudos.

I guess I dont see where I am blaming Dan Dakich for anything and not giving him his just respect for a strong recruiting class. If Dakich is gone next year it will likely be because he moves on to another opportunity and only then would we likely hire from within. It is rare that a head coach is fired and his assistant is brought in as head coach. That is not what I meant to infer. I meant if Dan leaves next year and Lamonta takes over would this count as his class? I would count it because it has his fingerprint all over it. I think it would be the first stone placed in Lamonta Stone's coaching career. Dan deserves all the credit for hiring Lamonta, Dan deserves all the credit for building a team and team chemistry that is favorable for a recruiter (be it Lamonta or Dan) to sell. But Lamonta is the new ingredient to the mix. And that ingredient netted us some very nice results.
