I think we need to make a distinction between political correctness and aversion to racial/tribal mascots. Anyone who knows me knows that I'm not a fan of political correctness, but having tribes/races of people as mascots is offensive. The reason why some take offense to native american mascots is because native americans were discriminated against (to say the least) and driven to reservations. Now, we want to "honor" them by using them as mascots? Certainly, we should understand why this might upset people. Political correctness is spelling women W-O-M-Y-N (women without the 'men') or being afraid to criticize certain minority groups. Cowboys should also be banned as mascots. After all, cowboys and Native Americans had many skirmishes with the cowboys killing many Native Americans. I have to say that your post basically is how I feel as well. Bleed Orange added good thoughts as well. I do think that the Redskins and Chief Wahoo are worse than the tribe names like the Chippewas.
