Sentinel has the story on Jeremy Holland

Here's what coach says in the paper tonight:

'Jeremy came the one day (this summer) that all our freshmen were going to be here, and I think he got homesick. He went to one day of class and one day of workout.

The 26th of June, a Sunday, he came here. He got up the next morning, worked out with our players, not even a hard workout, and went to class. His mother left at 2:00, in the afternoon on the 27th and that night he left at 10:00.

They all drove back here, mom, dad, everybody, a day or two later and we were talking about what he needs to do. It wasn't going to be any big deal, and kid can get homesick. Over the Fourth (of July) he got homesick, and that was it. I haven't seen him since."

So, there you go. The story also mentions two walkons, which probably are Phillips and Freeman, but I'm not sure.

It was probably hard on him going off the breast milk.

You know, I'm not even going to contemplate coming down on you guys for making fun of Holland because a situation like this is such a rarity. Do please bear in mind, though, that although Holland was an athlete, he was still a student. College is not for everyone, and the fact that some people are more tied to their homes than others, in my opinion, is not a reason to make fun of someone. In some ways, I think, that is commendable in this mobile day in age.

Remember that a sizable portion of incoming Freshmen classes leave within the first two weeks of arriving at school. Although Holland was a basketball player, he was still a student, and these things happen with students. It doesn't necessarily mean that he is a candyass or a woos, it just means that college probably wasn't for him. I remember when I transferred to BG that first night was really, really tough. I was lucky that Spring transfer students moved into the dorms four days early. I was the only student in Harshman Anderson for three days, and I remember how depressing it was being there completely alone that first night. I, however, had the time to drive home for a couple of days and re-energize. If I hadn't been able to do that at that point in my life, I can't say for sure that I would have lasted at BG. I thank God that I did. I will also say that moving to Tucson for graduate school has in many ways been much harder than that expereince. I have had the benefit, though, of learning through experience not to give up, and there is no way I would.

Just think of these things while processing the Holland situation. I can't imagine how he would feel if he or his family ever happened upon this thread.

Why is the Sentinel NOT on the internet?
It seems like every other newspaper in the world is on the net!
Anybody know anything about this?
I would love to read about my beloved Falcons six days a week or the blotter to see if anybody I know is cited for open container.
