The men's hoops regular season starts in just one month and there's not much chatter on here about the team and upcoming season yet. I know with the football team getting most of the attention on this website coupled with the limited success, defection of players, etc. surrounding the basketball team, this is part of the reason why. But, I really hope we can put together a good season this year. The last few years it's been like a broken record saying we don't have much expectations for a team we don't know what to expect out of, and that probably holds true more this season than in many recent years in the past.
We are going to be very young, but much more athletic than many of the teams in the last decade that we’ve had. I can only hope we can experience success early on, stay healthy, improve every game and you never know what can happen. But more importantly, I hope we can finally start building and quit rebuilding year after year after year. We have got a lot of great young talent here on campus….now if we can just keep them here, get them better and compliment them with future recruits for years to come – we could really start putting the pieces in place to build another strong program at BG. We haven’t been to the NCAA Tournament since 19-frickin-68, so I won’t even say anything about that with this team because I am sick of saying “maybe next year” ever again…..but you never know, just look at what Ohio did last season.
I hope Steven Wright is able to give it a go to start the season, and it would be great to go to Blacksburg and get at least a pair of wins down there in the NABC Classic to start the season off right. GO BG!!!

There used to be something similar to the 'Midnight Madness' called Hoops on Halloween or something here but that disappeared.cowboyjoe wrote:Is there an open scrimmage on Sunday or a "Midnight Madness" on Saturday night by any chance?
My belief for that is probably because practice is meant to practice, not provide entertainment. While I understand that, with this many new kids and being undersized, I think it'd be a great way to maybe get more people interested in the team this year.
Then I think about how they haven't really had a practice yet and with that many new guys, it could almost be embarassing.

So here some info on UK's 9:00 Madness. I'm not sure who was first in line, last year some camped for more than a week.
"Approximately 23,000 tickets were distributed in just over 48 hours, including 20,000 in the first 35 minutes of availability this past Saturday morning."
"And, unlike past years when the Wildcats took the court at midnight, Madness now begins at 9 p.m., thanks to a new NCAA regulation. Scheduled for Friday, Oct. 14, "

The last couple of years, BG has held an intra squad scrimmage/practice not immediately after practices start, but on a Saturday in which there is a home football game (a couple of hours prior to game).
I'd expect something like that prior to the either the WMU or Akron football games later this month.
