OK, now I'm confused. I thougt coaches weren't allowed to be in the gym with the players until the 14th and this hoopfactor guy is already visiting teams that are practicing with their coaches present all through the MAC.

Dakich walks right into the eye of it all repeating the same mantra for the next few minutes as he stalks the court – “Lets go! Lets go! Lets go fast! Faster! Right down here everyone ZigZag.” Some players get down and do fingertip pushups for losing a drill. Dakich tells a younger player “you don’t want to hustle.” He tells another during a 3 on none drill to “take the ball to the action.” He coaches another to “never be on the low sideHe coaches another to “never be on the low side.” This goes on for about 50 minutes. Not once does Dakich – or his assistants -- stop coaching"

I remember yeas back UNLV got burnt by the NCAA big time because Asst Coach Tim Grgurich was caught leading some players in calisthentics during the off season. What's the rule? What's going on?

I know there were some changes in the rules this year that give them more time with players 3-3 and that kind of thing, but I don't know all the details.

I was told that in the weeks leading up to "Midnight Madness" coaches are allowed to work with kids for 20 minutes at a time, three times a week. People here at UA are all pretty knowledgable about this stuff because Lute Olsen is pretty much a God here, so I kind of trust the info. Not sure about it, though.

Thanks brewer. I wasn't aware of that major change. It sorta makes the Oct 15 date a bit anti-climactic. With the individual workouts and informal "pickup" games, essentially basketball practice starts in June for college players I guess.

What also makes the date of the first allowed practice even more anti-climactic is that the time has been changed to 5pm not a date, so there will be no need for any midnight practices anymore. Somewhere Lefty Dreisell is rolling in his Lay-z- boy.

That could be true but see what time they are starting, my guess is something like 9pm, I know some places are doing that and calling it "Huskie Madness" or whatever not a true Midnight start.
