Dispatch view on the Falcons

Post by Tricky_Falcon »

Star quality: Senior juard Steven Wright is the closest player BG has to a viable anchor. Last season, he averaged 11.1 points and 3.8 rebounds playing a supporting role behind graduated seniors John Reimold and Josh Almanson. Is Wright ready to be the man? First of all, he must shoot a lot better than 40.7 percent - 29.9 percent from three-point range - and cut down on his 76 turnovers.

Keys to success: As usual, the Falcons must play as a team because the talent level just isn't there. THere is one player taller than 6-7, 6-11 center Matt Lefeld. Players such as Wright, sophomore forward Alvin Freeman and junior guard John Floyd must step up big-time.

Question marks: There are two seniors on the roster, so Dakich might have to dip into his six-man freshman class. That's a scary thought.

Outlook: There is no go-to player such as Anthony Stacy, Keith McLeod or Ron Lewis (yep they said Ron Lewis. They love him down here) in the past, so BG is probably looking at its third losing season in the past four years.

There are 40-50 posters on this board that know our team better than that sports writer. Maybe more.

I agree. I am willing to bet his "research" went as far as looking at our roster and a stat sheet.

Even if this guys research involved looking at a stat sheet and a roster. He is not really wrong about what he is saying. Its not a very possitive report, but he is not to far off base. He probably doesnt give our freshman enough credit (jury is still out), and he fails to mention Semarco (who by his high number of shots taken and his low percentage is starting to show glimpses of Ron Lewis, which should make the Columbus people happy).

I would say that I could write the exact same report he did about West Carolinas basketball team never seeing them or even talking to anyone who had seen them

Alvin Freeman? God bless him for walking on and being a valued member of our team but I don't really think that our season exactly rests on his back.

It honestly makes me wonder why they would even have an article about BG. Had they talked to anyone who has been to a game last year or been on this message board more than once they would have been able to point to Samarco as a Juco All American as the center of the preview. It is almost like they wanted to chide us read this.....

"Keys to success: As usual, the Falcons must play as a team because the talent level just isn't there. THere is one player taller than 6-7, 6-11 center Matt Lefeld. Players such as Wright, sophomore forward Alvin Freeman and junior guard John Floyd must step up big-time.

(First they say as usual we don't have any talent. And what teams don't have to "play as a team?")

Question marks: There are two seniors on the roster, so Dakich might have to dip into his six-man freshman class. That's a scary thought.

Outlook: There is no go-to player such as Anthony Stacy, Keith McLeod or Ron Lewis in the past, so BG is probably looking at its third losing season in the past four years.

(Then they point to talented players we have just had)

This is one of the most uneducated articles I have ever seen.

The "as usual" comment is so off of reality and so un-needed that it leads me to beleive that who ever wrote it had something against BG.

Currently, I beleive, there are as many BG players in the NBA as OSU.

Derek Anderson is ours here at UK. I know that technically both schools can claim him, but that would be like Ron Lewis making the NBA and we at BG claimed him as one of our own NBAers. Technically we could do it, but I don't think any of us really feels Ron deserves to be called a Falcon anymore.

You're right on the money with this one. Once the person leaves I don't think you can claim him as one of your own. I'd be willing to bet not many people knew Anderson was a buckeye (I didn't). I even went to three Kentucky basketball camps and didn't know :?

um...you're getting closer. But Bison Dele who is now dead Started his career at Maryland under former osu coach Gary Williams and finished his career at Arizona. Didn't play college ball at osu.

Uwe went to Indiana

Jim Shikenjanski didn't he go to Minnesota?

Bison Dele didn't play for Maryland or Arizona. He was Brian Williams back then.

You are correct that Shikenjanski was a Minnesota guy, but you forgot to call me out on Antoine "the Judge" Joubert from Michigan.

Now back to my rambling nonsense for the sole purpose of entertaining myself and the webmaster.........

Brad Sellers, Eli "Punky" Brewster, Dugan Fife and Treg Lee are definitely former Buckeyes who are currently in the NBA.
