Do we have numbers retired?

I was in the shot last week and noticed that OSU has banners with their players numbes retired. I have never noticed this in Anderson or maybe have noticed it and forgot. A nice ring of honor with the Jerseys of Thurmond, Komives, Stacy, Daniels, Graham Bunn and McCleod might be nice.

Yeah I mentioned that last year. Apparently we had a ceremony for Thurmond and technically his number is retired but no banners.

Wouldn't that help recruiting and adding fans just a bit.

Someone gets in Anderson, sees a jersey with Thurmonds name on it. Asks who is that? answer is he played at BG when we were ranked in the top 8 in the country, He went on to be one of the NBA's top 50 players of all time.

I would bet a lot of people have no idea who Komives or Thurmond were.

Preaching to the choir. I agree 100%. I didn't think it would be that expensive to do either. I am certain alumni/fans with the right background would even help make the banner if they had to.

I am surprised coach Dakich hasn't brought this up. Maybe he has but usually when he wants something he gets it.

I was at the ceremony in 1985 (or 6) in which Nate Thurmond was recognized and presented his jersey.

Following that day a framed Falcons 42 jersey was placed in the lobby of Memorial Hall, near the entrance to the student section of Anderson Arena.

I noticed last year that it had been absent for sometime. One day last year I was walking through Memorial Hall and spotted Don Cunningham the athletics archivist and I asked "hey, what happened to the Thurmond jersey?" He replied that it had been stolen off the wall not once but twice and they hadn't replaced it the most recent time.

He had mentioned they were possibly going to frame one of the pricey throwbacks they sell at the union bookstore, but to this day there still is not a jersey hanging .

I say one of two things, there needs to be a banner along with the championship banners and perhaps it could look like this:

Or we the members of AZZ pitch in $5 or $10 each to purchase the jersey from the bookstore, have it framed, and include a plaque with some stats/bio info on Big Nate, and of course "donated by the members of ay-ziggy-zoomba.com"

His presence has been absent far too long.

Guys... this was brought up last year in a big way to the athletic department. I don't understand why it doesn't happen.

I'll try to fill in a little more of the details when time permits. It's not a matter of $... I'm not even sure what it's a matter of... It's frustrated me, I have tried to help make it happen, and it didn't happen.

DD, that's an awesome idea. I have been in contact w/ Mr. Thurmond regarding a couple of other things. I know he'd appreciate this. I'm going to see if I can make this happen. The jersey was great to see in the lobby. He needs to be recognized... lots of former players do, but Nate expecially b/c he already WAS honored once.

I don't have an ebay account but looks like you can get a jersey and a hat for less than you could at the bookstore.

Graham Bunn???????????
I believe he made a buzzer beater in his first pre-season game (and the first game I ever saw in AA), but does he belong in the proposed Ring of Honor?

Graham Bunn has blazed frontiers for BG Athletes.Think about all the other great BG players who have followed in his footsteps...Doliboa, Crawford, Lewis, Moss, Vandermmer, Holland

Chris Hobson, Kris Wilson, Reggie Harwell, Isaac Rosefelt, Austin Montgomery, Jabari Mattox, and the football players all left before their time was up. but who is counting anyway.

Bunn also dated Erin Norman, so I, along with others (hammb for certain) will give him props for that.

Bunn dated her? Definitely gets props for that. Classic example of 'dating up'.

"Dating up" is a wonderful phenomenon. It allowed me to eventually hit the jackpot and "marry up"!

Bunn and Norman is beyond "dating up" for Bunn. That is hitting the jackpot. Hitting being the key word.

Yes, Erin was a hottie, and a pretty cool gal as well. Had her in one of my classes, and was my fave ziggy's bartender :)
