Select your starting Five

Post by edr4225 »

Heres my starting Five for the bg falcons

I would go:

pg: wright
sg: samarco
sf: moten
pf: Marschall
C: lefeld

6th men: soler and floyd

I know people are gonna say this lineup wont happen, but here me out. The reason i dont like floyd as a starter is because of his quickness. He doesnt have the speed or quickness to keep up with good college point guards. It hurts him on defense because he cant lock anybody up or get steals and it hurts him on offense because he can breakdown the defense with the drive. We need someone to breakdown a defense with the drive, like ron lewis and keith McLeod and brandon pardon did. One thing floyd does have going for him is his leadership abilities, but thats it. Moon turns the ball over to much, so enough said there. Now Soler is a solid defender and rebounder, but he hes like erick crawford 2, he has no jumpshot at all, the only way he scores is being around the basket. Now starting lineup i have selected, it has two proven scorers and defenders in samarco and wright and a potential offensive star in moten, take a look at moten's summary:

6-4 Bryan Moten - Cincinnati-Christian Center Academy (prep school), OH - formerly of Saginaw, MI

* also recruited by: Virginia, Baylor, UNLV, Auburn, Florida State, Bowling Green and Kansas State. Previously verballed to WMU, went to prep school, verballed to Virginia in the winter then committed to BG this summer.
* Averaged 28 points, five rebounds and four assists as a senior at Arthur Hills High School in Saginaw
* Vince Baldwin of PrepSpotlight.com ranked Bryan the # 5 wing guard in Michigan's class of 2004
* “He is one of the best pure shooters that I have ever seen. He has tremendous range on his shot and can just flat out shoot the ball,” said Cincinnati Christian coach Travis McAvene. “He’s also very good off the dribble and that combined with his shooting is I think what makes him so attractive to the college coaches.”
* WMU head coach Steve Hawkins had this to say about Moten in May of 2004 after he initially committed to the Broncos, “Bryan can really shot it. He’s got unlimited range. Another good athlete with good size at the guard spot. He can get to the basket and has a very quick release, comes off the screens well. He will be a real three-point threat for us. We felt like when we got a commitment from him last year that we got a steal. As he went throughout this year it became evident that we were right. He’s very capable of playing well and having a great career here.”
* Stephen Bell of MichiganPreps.com says this about Bryan, "Moten is a smooth scoring guard who gets great elevation on his shot and loves to pull up in the lane."

Top 10 finishers in the 24th annual Hal Schram Mr. Basketball Award

1. Drew Neitzel, Wyoming Park, Michigan State

2. Joe Crawford, Detroit Renaissance, Kentucky

3. Malik Hairston, Detroit Renaissance, Oregon

4. Marquise Gray, Flint Beecher, Michigan State

5. Al Horford, Grand Ledge, Florida

6. Brian Moten, Saginaw Arthur Hill, Bowling Green Falcons!!!!

7. Ron Coleman, Romulus, Michigan

8. Goran Suton, Lansing Everett, Michigan State

9. Darryl Garrett, Detroit Denby, Junior College

10. Dan Waterstradt, Rutgers

This moten guy could be a major player for us. He has offensive talent and we could be good with a wright, samarco, moten trio. As for the posts players i have marschall and lefeld becasue they have the best size available on our team, for next year, i like sullivan at the starting PF spot.

Well all i can do now is wait and hope that we continue to improve with what we have, but i wouldnt mind see the starting five that i have talked about in this post.

Moten as a SF? Have you even seen the kid? You have to remember the media guides and websites lie. They add a few inches for these kids. He's like 6'0, maybe 6'1.

PG - Floyd
SG - Wright
SF - Samarco
PF - Soler
C - Lefeld

No Metzger I saw Moten right next to Clements who is 6'4 at one of the ladies games and he was very close if not the same height as Clements. Moten is definitly taller than 6'1. I see Moten as a SG/SF for us with the way our roster is big man deficient.

Ya know what, hell with it. You're right. Always right.

Just think though. Is it possible Clements is listed at a taller height than he really is? Maybe you should re-read the 2nd sentence in my original post. Even so, you're probably still right. In which case I'm now 6'8 because they are more than 1" shorter than I am.

Well I'm just saying if Clements were to be indeed only 6'1 then Moten would be the same cuz I saw them together right next to one another and they are basicly the same height. It was just way I saw it. :-\

Yes we will let DD select the starting five since he is Currently the coach but I'll answer the question:

Wright
Moten
Samarco
Soler
Lefeld

First of bench: Marschall, Floyd, Clements and Radivojevic maybe Moon for 5 minutes.

Nick Wilson will be redshirted if Moten is eligible.

Last years team wasn't that talented but they played well together, as I hope this team will over time. I think this team will be deeper than last years. We are fine in the the post but we were last year. We are thin at the point but we were last year.

Here's hoping Wright and Moten make a difference.

you know what, i kinda like that, you see that you replaced soler at PF, i just donw know if he can guard PF, thats why i had marschall there. i guess if soler steps up his D, he could guard PFs and we know he can rebound, nice osu falcon

I'm sure duke wouldn't mind putting Laettner, Hill, Gminski, Dawkins, and Hurley out there...imagine who would be coming in off the bench for them...

Duke would have some serious depth on us, no doubt.

I still gotta believe, even at his age, that Big Nate could play for us this year.

That's not how you're supposed to do it?

And I thought I was a solid 6 feet tall this whole time. Damn.
