I have never seen a more uninterested , unenthusiastc student crowd in all my time of seeing BG games at Anderson. This is becoming a epidemic I think with students at football games being told to sit down and studetns at hockey games being escorted out by security for standing up and cheering because it blocks some fans behind them from the seeing the action.

It was unreal. Those hot Oakland cheerleaders/mobsqad or whatever they were, were louder than our whole student section. Only the the Anderson Animals and a few Sideline Squad member had signs of a pulse. It was humiliating. Is this how its going to be now? If it is than we can probably count on losing more games at home than we win. We needed the good ole crowds of old that when everyone was standing and chanting or cheering it would be LOUD real LOUD. If we had that we might have made more of a game of it or possibly won.

Metzger , I think you should officiall forget bout 20-9 for good. I did like the way our guys hustled though but we were just outmatched especially vs that 270lb hulk for Oakland.

You're preaching to the choir here, falconboy. Perhaps your sentiments would best be expressed in a letter to the editor of the BG News.

I tihnk you are giving the anderson animals too much credit. The only difference between them and the rest of the crowd was that they were standing. They weren't makin any noise and adding anything to the game either...I would have thought they would have at least tried to distract Oakland when they were shooting free throws or something.

I was disappointed as well. We had a decent crowd (at least until like 10 minutes left in the game), but it was so quiet in Anderson. The cheerleaders also seemed to be quieter than normal...don't get me wrong, the cheerleaders are great, but they seemed to be lacking enthusiasm (especially after seeing them at the Miami football game). I did feel that at least some of the Athletic Band seemed to be energetic (okay, at least me and another flicc were). Hopefully, the band and cheerleaders will get the hang of basketball season and we can cheer the Falcons on to victory!

I don't know how many times this has to be said, but if you don't put an overly successful product on the floor for a long period of time, it'll be hard to get enthusiasm. Equate that with basketball not being a top sport in the area, you got to do something to build enthusiasm.

I'm afraid the amount of transfers and defections coupled with a dropoff in overall performance and competitiveness the last couple years has really taken its toll with not only our student body, but our overall fanbase. It hasn't turned me away, but I would be lying if I said I have been pleased to see where our program is nowadays. The bottom line is, we are not a good basketball team or program - "right now." Now we can be, and we can be so much more than what we are now and what we have been over the last few years, but BG has been more of a sideshow in the MAC with all the off the court bullcrap than it has been a force on the hardwood. And there's only one way to turn it around and to prove those days are over. Win, and keep players at BG. It's the bottom line. If you win, people come out and watch, they get interested and excited, and it snowballs. But the same can be said when you don't. And if we keep losing players year after year, FOR WHATEVER REASON & WHOEVER IS TO BLAME, it will never get any better. I'm so sick and tired of hearing excuses from our team - our coaches says it's the players fault they are leaving, our players say its the coaches fault they are leaving. Frankly, I don't care who's at fault anymore, I just want to fix the problem and get back to winning basketball and get things turned around both on and off the floor one way or another. I'm done venting now.....

My Fiance and I were standing up! No one around us was, however. I wanted to grab Freddy's eraser board and write "get off you fat lazy asses and cheer!" Maybe nex time.

We were yelling when they were shooting free throws...if you were sitting behind us, it is hard to hear. Oh well...you still have a point. I am trying to stop starting cheers because the cheer leaders should be doing that. When there are only 10 or so of you, it's hard to make the place loud enough to bother the other team.

I'm disappointed in attendance, too, but when no one else is even going the cheer, 10 people aren't going to make a difference. It's a school night, people have class or just don't know about the game. I'm not going to worry about attendance until after Christmas break...

It was a mid-week game. Against Oakland. Our team is lousy, hoping to achieve mediocrity before the season is over.

How much attendance & excitement did you expect? We haven't had good fan support with a loud gym since McLeod graduated.

How about a new arena that attracts crowds! Build it and they will come! Wait, we may need to recruit better first! Wait, we're in the MAC and the Big Pin Conference robs all the Mid-West Talent! Oh well, keep sitting at those games!
