Gotta believe we could have won with Samarco....but....

It looks like it's going to be a month or more until we get another win from our last, which happened to be on 11/19 vs. Urbana. Is it football season yet? Oh yeah, we still have to wait another month before we can say that either since the bowl season hasn't even started yet.

I wish I could, but I can't make it to Miami, Florida in the next hour and a half. And while I am thrilled for our women's team doing well, women's hoops just doesn't cut it for me. But I wish them lots of luck tonight.

I think DD said UALR shot 45 FTs and I didn't catch our TO total, but it was bad.

Furthermore, UALR is a team much like BG--they lost most of their big scorers from last year. And they're still 8 points better than us, tonight.

I guess you have to ask if the pieces are coming together. Dusan contributed a little. Can Marschall, who has fouled out of every game but one this year, last to the end of the game. I'm an optimist at heart, and flame away if you like, but somewhere in there is it a kernel of seeing something? I don't know. So far, its discouraging.

It's not much, and I don't know the total flow of the game other than CBS updates every 5-10 minutes, but BG hung tough the second half, something they've hardly done well AT ALL this year. When it was a 12 point game in the first half, I thought it might get out of hand, but BG got it to six. The negative side of me expected to see it reach mid-teens or worse in the second half, and it never did. BG couldn't get over the hump, but they didn't fade away like they have been. And this is with their "star" playing limited minutes in his first game of the year, and their leading scorer on the bench for who knows what.... Still doesn't end the frustration, but it seems like there's more to build off of in this game than in recent games.

Well, if UALR shot 45 free throws, that seems about right. After all, our best defense seems to be fouling our opponent and hoping they miss a free throw or two...because even if they make both free throws, it's still one point less than if they made a three. Fouls, fouls, fouls.

UALR shot 33 of 46 from the line, we were 11 of 16.

17 points for Lefeld today led all scorers, Marschall added 10.

30 team fouls. Ugh.

Holy cow!!! You won't beat many teams giving them that kind of an advantage.

I really wonder (and because I can't see games all I have is wondering) if a lot of the fouling this team is doing right now is out of frustration. I guess it is the eternal optomist living in my shoe, but I think once Wright can come back and establish himself, and Samarco can show up to stuff on time consistently, a lot of this frustration might subside with more than one "impact" player on the floor.

But then again, I could be way off. It wouldn't be the first time.

We also had 20 TO's. The fouling isn't new this year...we've fouled a lot for a couple years. Its just worse this year. Everyone seems to think its a lack of athleticism and being out of position, not frustration. We're just getting beat.

We were also outrebounded 34-19.

We played this game closer than it actually was.

The box score I saw I thought had us in the mid-20's rebounding. Not much of a consolation, but better than almost being doubled up...

And DD said as much about the fouling after the Bradley game. the athleticism, being out of position, reaching instead of moving to the spot... THAT'S the sort of thing I would hope could be worked out in practice, but the trend continues.

We have been a foul prone team for as long as I can remember, and that includes our good teams. It's just part of our system, apparently. I mean I'm sure that they aren't coached to foul, but it seems like we ask our guys to do things that they cannot do, and as such they foul continuously.

It might be a function of "going hard" in practice too. If guys are doing stuff in practice that they'll get whistled for in games, you're going to see a ton of fouls.

I have heard from various sources that our practices sometimes resemble football games with the amount of contact that they have. It could definitely be the case that they're doing things in practice that are going to get called in the game...would definitely explain why even our talented teams are foul-prone.
