Your Personal Top 5 Anderson Arena Moments
LIST GAMES YOU HAVE ATTENDEND AND CAN REMEMBER
Here are mine in no particular order:
-Meeting Nate Thurmond as he was recognized for his Basketball HOF induction and presented his jersey in the 1985-86 season.
-Beating the top 10 ranked MSU Spartans and Steve Smith, the loudest I can ever remember Anderson Arena
-Beating Kent State and seeing Anthony Stacey break Butch Komvies scoring record and shaking both Stacey's and Komives' hands afterwards
-The Antonio Daniels help from above game winner vs. top 25 ranked Eastern Michigan. I got "thrown out" of this game but snuck back in to watch AD win it
-Last year's Germain Fitch Toledo buzzer beater
Honorable Mention Moments: my high school graduation, the THREE NCAA Tourney games I have seen the women play in there, Juan Street punching a Youngstown State players tooth out, seeing Dan Majerle, Rick Majerus, and Gary Trent, having UT's Casey Shaw threaten me and my friends, any time I can get in to the athletic archives closet

all bowling green
in no order...(my window is only six years)
- the michigan game in 2001
- the kent state game where stacey became the scoring leader
- the 2005 toledo blizzard/giant comeback
- lindsay austin buzzer beater vs wmu in 2004 (her first of three that spring, two of which came against wmu) it seemed like the ball bounced off of the rim 60 times before it fell.
- women's 2005 toledo game (kelly kapferer-tiettmeyer hits game tying basket and go ahead FT in the final 10 seconds of the game)

also randomly...
-A. Stacey game vs. Kent State
-win over Michigan
(mostly because the place was rocking both nights, and they were both wins)
-Feb. 1993, Michael Huger hits a jumper to beat Kent at the buzzer (also the first game I did on radio)
-I can't remember for sure if it was the EMU game (95% sure), but I watched it from the floor in the corner by the visitors bench. Another rocking house and an exciting game
-Also probably have to go with the women's NCAA games, both which I did for radio.
I swear there are more, but those stand out (especially since they were mentioned by others).
And DD, was the UT game last year a buzzer beater by Fitch? Or just a late lead on a bucket by Fitch and a missed UT shot at the buzzer?

Some of the ones I would say have already been mentioned, but I've got to add the 25-point (I think that's how far behind BG was) comeback against Miami!!! Awesome game, the place was going nuts and there were future NBA players in the game with Antonio Daniels and Wally World. I can't remember if Ira Newble was at Miami yet, he was a JUCO transfer, but if so, him too. I believe it was and still is the biggest comeback in school history.
GO BG!!!
Oddly enough, one of my most vivid Anderson Arena memories was a heartbreaking BG loss. John Deveraux, Danny Nee and the Ohio Bobcats had to come to our place for the 1982-83 MAC Tournament Championship after we had cruised to the league regular season championship.
Me and the future Mrs. Rollo crammed into the student section and watched the Falcons choke one off, 59-56. The Ohio band made the trip but had no room to sit in the sold out AA. They stood instead in the corner of the walled end line and played as students threw things at them.
After this tough loss that kept us from an NCAA bid, the team accepts a bid to the NIT. Me and some of the other dorm rats made the trip to East Lansing and sat in Jenison Fieldhouse and watched the Falcons lose again. They controlled the game all the way agaoinst Michigan State. Keith "K-Nice" Taylor misses the back end of a one-and-one that could have sealed the game. Spartans come down and Kevin EWillis hits a turnaround baseline jumper from about 15 feet as time expires to tie the game. Scott Skiles takes over in overtime and we lose 72-71.
One of the most depressing ending to a great season I can remember. Maybe the Stacy-lead team in 99-00 might have come close with the loss to Miami and Krunkenmeyer in the first round of the MAC tourney?

I remember that game all too well, that game was certainly a heartbreaker, and a season-killer. That shot was like from 35-feet away. He misses it, we win in regulation. Instead, he sinks it and Miami sinks BG in OT.Rollo83 wrote:Maybe the Stacy-lead team in 99-00 might have come close with the loss to Miami and Krunkenmeyer in the first round of the MAC tourney?
GO BG!!!
In no particular order after #1......
1. Not a particular moment, but the entire game. BG over Kent State in 2000. Stacey breaks the scoring record and Esterkamp gets his 1,000th point. It would be really tough for that night to be moved from the #1 spot for me.
BG over Toledo last year at the buzzer.
BG over Michigan in 2001. McLeod's shot to take the lead in the last minute was unbelieveable.
Ron Lewis' blocks to preserve a 1st round MAC tourney win. I don't remember whether it was against OU or Ball State. I just remember a monster block at the buzzer.
Coach Dakich making a layup against Miami one year when the ball rolled down to the BG end of the court.

I remember the loss to OU in the MAC Championship game at Anderson Arena as well. That 82-83 squad was a veteran team that I thought had a great chance to pull off an upset in the Big Dance if they would have made it.
To add insult to injury that same evening the BG hockey team lost in the finals of the CCHA tourney in OT to Michigan St. Although they won the regular season CCHA title the Falcons were denied an at-large bid to the NCAA tourney when the bids came out the next day. What a crappy day in BG sports history.
I remember reading about the basketball team getting beat that day. Also, if I remember correctly, BG had swept Ohio in the regular season as well. That loss cost BG a MAC Title and a trip to the NCAA Tournament, if that wasn't tought enough, the loss happened in Anderson Arena of all places. I didn't know the hockey team suffered that loss on the same day. Well, look on the bright side, at least the football team didn't lose on a fake punt by a fat punter that year as well to ruin a MAC Championship and bowl trip. That would happen about 11 years later. Stupid fat punter.......doughash wrote:Rollo83 wrote:Oddly enough, one of my most vivid Anderson Arena memories was a heartbreaking BG loss. I can't believe no one has mentioned the 25 or so point comeback against Miami in 1997, I think? That game was incredible. Also, I think the same season against Akron, last game of the year, AD's last home game, Jay L's last home game and Jay put on a shooting display and scored around 40. That game may have also clinched the regular season MAC Championship, which of course got us nothing, but still a great day. Those are two of my favorites memories.

Yes sir, that was a painful, painful night.doughash wrote:Rollo83 wrote:Oddly enough, one of my most vivid Anderson Arena memories was a heartbreaking BG loss. Let's not forget that the Falcons missed a penalty shot in OT against MSU.

I'm class of '97 and was at both of those games! I was on the floor when they cut the nets down after that Akron game, celebrating the MAC reglar season championship. But that comeback against Wally/Miami is easily my favorite.
A Big Comeback vs. Ball State
In 1993 (I think) Bowling Green was down 9 points with 30 seconds to go in the game. We made 2 3-pointers and Ball State missed the front half of 1&1 twice. Shane Komives (and his long socks) hit a running 3-pointer at the buzzer for us to win by one and was carried off the court.
