Sagarin/RPI

After the win yesterday and the reasonable showing at FSU, our Sagarin has gone from 301 to 247. Not all that great, but it's nice to get out of the three hundreds. We no longer have non-MAC D1 schools on our roster (except the Bracketbuster), so any RPI/Sagarin improvements will come at the expense other MAC teams and will be zero-sum for the conference. We're obviously not a bubble team this year, but it's fun to see where we end up late in the year. I expect to finish the year around 150.

The MAC is ranked 12th, which is a little disappointing. OU is at 23 despite getting smeared by UC. Kent and Akron are surprisingly low at 146 and 220, respectively. The MAC still has about two weeks worth of games to get some more D1 wins. Maybe the conference can widdle itself up to the ten spot. The Colonial, Mountain West, and Western Athletic are just a hair above the MAC.

Fun stat: Marshall's Conference USA comes in at a cool #18. Not too swift.

Akron beat Mississippi State today. I don't know what the Bulldogs bring to the SEC table, but a nice win for St. Vincent-St. Mary Technical College nonetheless.

A very nice win for Akron. I remember when BG beat Mississippi State in 1997. We also beat Purdue and Nebraska that same year. Of course, those wins didn't carry much weight for us despite having a great year because we were snubbed for the NCAA Tournament in what soon became a trend over the next five years. But for Akron, a nice win over an SEC team.

The loss pushes Mississippi State to 8-3 on the year, though who knows what kind of competition that's been against. Akron plays 10-0 Clemson next, another chance for a big win.

I believe Troy took Mississippi State to overtime in Starkville before losing. Not idea whether Mississippi State didn't come to play or if Troy played lights out.

I think the MAC will end up around #10-12 in the Sagarin/RPI at the end of the year. Winning a bunch of Bracket Buster games should boost the ranking. I think the parity in the MAC this year will again keep us to 1 tournament team despite a higher conference rating than C-USA. There are simply too many good teams that are tough to beat at home. I know we're not the best team in the MAC, but I expect us to go 6-3 or so at home. I think the best record in the MAC will end up around 13-5 or 12-6, which unfortunately may not be enough to get the league an at-large spot.
