Rosefelt doesn't miss D-I

Isaac Rosefelt, a standout basketball player at St. Thomas Academy, received a scholarship to Bowling Green. A thin, 6-8 forward, he played in 13 games as a freshman in 2002-03, then joined an exodus from Dan Dakich's program that numbered seven people.

"Dakich played for Bobby Knight and tries to act the same way as a coach," Rosefelt said.

Rosefelt returned home to play for the University of St. Thomas last season. He averaged 13.7 points and 11.8 rebounds, impressive enough to be named an All-America by the Jewish Sports Review.

This season, Rosefelt has been more dominant for the Tommies, averaging 22.6 points, 11.1 rebounds and shooting 68 percent from the field.

Rosefelt is African-American. He was adopted as a baby by Jewish parents. "I would guess I'm the only guy on the Jewish All-America team who wears a large Afro," he said.

Glad he's doing well, but we could use a 6'8'' player right now. I thought he looked over matched as a D-1 player but it sounds like he's grown up into a soild player. I think he was home sick as well.

I would say he hit the nail pretty close to the head and it was a bad personality match as were a lot of recruits in that similar timeframe.

Ok, going to defend Dakich here. Why would you go to a school for a coach who had a style you didn't like?

Im not impressed, Rosafelt is playing in a weak league, he couldnt handle mac play, which is why he transfered. Dakich turns boys into men and rosafelt wasnt ready to make that transition. The Northern Illinois coach knows how good Dakich is, he said "For Coach Dakich to be able to have that group going the way he is with all those young guys and new guys, losing (John) Reimold and (Josh) Almanson, it is just unbelievable."

Partially. But how can you completely blame the coach for personality conflicts. Why hasn't the recruit done some searching and questioning to find out if there is a personality clash before he decides to come. I mean if I am looking at spending 4 to 5 years somewhere I would make sure that I could get along with the guy I'm working for. Sometimes I get the feeling that many athletes don't. They expect the coach to act to their level of comfort and treat them differently from everyone else.

As a coach, you are recruiting the talent. As the coach I would expect them to play the way I want them to play. I tell them that right away, "you come here, you play my way. Here is how I do it". If that kid comes anyways it is his responsibility to adjust. 10 guys playing under the coaches style is by far a better idea than one guy coaching 10 different styles. This is why UK sucks right now. No one wants to play the same game, Tubby's game. You just don't see the transfers because not many people want to leave the most storied program in college hoops, the super nice dorms that only players and a few select students live in, and everything that comes knocking on their door drunk and barely clothed.

Yep...it's Dan's fault for keeping the fact that he played under Knight and employs many of the same coaching tactics such a secret....

I do not think the departure of Isaac Rosefelt has hurt BG's program at all. Anytime someone leaves a D1 program to go D3, I think it should be understood they probably couldn't handle playing D1. He is putting up some decent numbers and was a Jewish All American last year (by the way, has anyone heard of that before?). However our program (although struggling this year with inexperienced players) should never be hurt by losing a player like Rosefelt.

Slow news day? This is really a non-issue, both are probably happy with the decision.

I saw enough of Isaac Rosefelt to know that he was no where near tenacious or tough enough to play D1 ball. I don't care what he does in some D3 league. He was no D1 player. Not even close. He had 2 years of development before he'd see the court in a reserve role. I had high hopes for him coming in.

What's interesting about Rosefelt is his HS numbers. He averaged 26 and 12 in a city league and was top 10 in MN. When you consider those facts, plus his height, it amazes me that he was as far from D1-ready as he was.

I was never sad he left. The guy was a literal stick figure in a uni. Seriously, he could've gotten used in the post by Ali Mann. :-\

Glad it was only one player that has had a personality conflict with the coach and that it only happened in that one year.
