Dan and Norm on the FRONT ROW . . . shocking!

I guess that Coach Dakich is a "regular" on Mondays around 4:30 on 1470 "The Ticket" . . . with our good friend Norm Wamer and the other clown.

Due to Cheap Channel owning half of Toledo and providing very few musical outlets, I decided to turn the old boys on today as I needed a screaching and annoying voice to keep me awake on 475 . . . It was a long weekend and that didn't include Friday night's debacle . . .

Here are the major points from the show:

*We had 3 visitors this weekend." Coach can't name names for obvious reasons, I would have to believe that one of these is Mr. Marshall from seeing the other posts.

*We have 5 scholarships to offer and "we WILL fill them all" . . . It's not new news, but he was very emphatic about filling all scholarships.

*Said last year's team was the only team that he felt really underachieved in all of his years of coaching and had the WORST senior leadership that he's ever seen. We will deduct 1 point for a low blow on Netter, as much as he deserves it.

*Vandiver is the Associate Head Coach and Recruiting Coordinator at Northern Colorado and Markowski accepted a position that can potentially triple his coaching salary at BG. As the second/third assistant, he was making comparable to the $8.50/hr. workers at Taco Bell . . . Not Dan's words, just my two cents . . . Said that LaMonta (La-Mont-Tay) Stone has "opened doors for us in Detroit, where we've been unsuccessful in the past"

Anyway, here's where it gets interesting. Dan said "yeah I told Andy to let me go to Fizer (Pharmaceutical) and he could coach the team . . . I'm sure there would be some BG fans who would enjoy that." They all laugh. So Wamer says . . . "Yeah if you follow the BG message boards . . . the coaching staff can't do anything right" . . .

Dakich replies "Well I don't follow that stuff"(um, BULLSHIT) . . . I know from personal experience that he does . . . and then says . . . "you know, if people want to go on those message boards or call in and make judgements about me without getting to know me . . . then TO HELL WITH THEM . . . "

For the record, I have always said he was a nice guy OFF THE COURT . . . I question his ability to coach a basketball team.

Wamer says "tell me about your team . . . blah blah blah"

Dakich responds "Well we made some adjustments over the summer and GOT RID OF PEOPLE WHO DIDN'T WANT TO BE HERE . . . (or they simply left) . . . We didn't hustle, we weren't tough and we didn't play sound basketball . . . We had too many agendas last year . . . Through some different moves this summer we were able to change a few things and we addressed toughness and teamwork and WE'RE BETTER OFF."

"we have 3 captains who are providing the drive and leadership for this team to get better. I COULDN'T BE HAPPIER WITH THIS TEAM. In years when we've had 2 or more captains we average 21 or 22 wins . . . In years we have only 1 captain, we average around 16 or 15"

"I wish we had about six games under our belt. We've pushed these kids like we never have before and they're responding."

He also mentioned that Lefeld went from 235 to 265 and is quicker and has better hops . . . I saw him last night and have a hard time believing he is 265, but he does look solid and much better.

Dan also talked about how they have two rules . . . "Don't embarrass your team, yourself or your family" and you can take that anyway you want, he said.

And show up on time for my meetings.

"We do things the right way. For people who want to question me, we've sent something like 10 guys to Europe and all have been asked back a second year. Because when I talk to the GMs and the coaches, they say send me more Bowling Green kids b/c they know how to handle themselves. Our kids go to class everyday, they respect their elders and they know how to act in restaurants on the road"

BUT CAN THEY WIN DAN????

Interesting interview that shows how much or how little grasp of reality we actually have on this program right now . . . of course, depending on your outlook.

Nice post...interesting as always. Everything is personal with him. Let's hope he's right. Got my doubts, but let's hope he's right.

Like I have been saying all along, give them a chance! Watch a game before we say how bad things will be...

I like hearing we might be able to now "open doors in Detroit." Look how many players schools like Michigan State and Detroit (Mercy) have pulled from their backyards that have done well.

Mmmmmm......................

Very Interesting. :-\ I'll say one thing Lefeld will have to be force for us to compete with anyone, that means D.2 schools that we like to play ealy in the season. I hope this Erik Marshall kid can also score.

What I have heard him say during the months I've been picking back up on things, he sounds like he is focused, and has an idea of what needs to be done. Win or lose, I'm interested in seeing how they act and play on the court. If the focus and such is there, its a clear sign he has matters in hand. I'll give him the benifit of the doubt.

Could you work on that? It'd be a lot more convenient for everyone if you got rid of that weird C. :P

Hey, look how many players KENT STATE was pulled from the Detroit area. Mich State and Detroit are givens but the Flashes have a pipeline that goes back to Gary Waters' tenure. There is a ton of talent in that area and BG needs to be right there with everyone else.

Good stuff Option. I look forward to seeing how this season plays out.

GO FALCONS!

That's true, Kent State did a very good job pulling guys in from up there, and no school in the MAC knows it more than BG with as many times as we've lost to Kent State! We've lost to Kent State 13 out of the last 15 games we've played with them! Man that hurts!

BG is much closer to Detroit than Kent State is, maybe some of these guys would like to come play hoops in Ohio and still be close to home.
