No one could agree with Christopher Hitchens all the time, and who would want to? But you had to recognize he was thoughtful, smart, and not paid for. Furthermore he was a real journalist who did original reporting. He didn't just opine on the latest missives from the Washington think-tanks.

And he was quite often funny as hell.

I didn't have a lot of common ground with Hitchens, but I enjoyed his work tremendously.
It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.
