When the hell is men's cross country going to get their act together?!?!?!? I'm sick of women's track under preforming!!!!

As a side note, I had no idea BG had men's cross country before I looked it up.

Wonder if OU fan's are upset they didn't win it? Probably leaning on that great football and basketball season, but I'm sure finishing behind Kent and Eastern really stings. Especially since most people have never heard of the Reese Cup.

If we're fielding teams in these sports, shouldn't we be wondering why we consistently suck at them?
It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.

I know you aren't serious but I asked why they were under-preforming (sic) in another thread and got a nice response from BGSID. Apparently the new coach, who was quite successful at Austin Peay, redshirted most of his top performers, including one of the MAC's top sprinters, Jeanette Pettigrew, and wrote off the MAC this year in order to build for the future. BG has been relatively strong in the throws and in the sprints but is REAAALLLY weak in distance events which hurts when there are so many events. I supsect in a couple years that imbalance will be corrected somewhat and you'll see dramatic improvement over the one point scored this year. Pettigrew is probably worth 12 or 14 points by herself.

h2o, do you know how many MAC schools have men's track teams?

I was being extremely sarcastic. It's a nice prize but it's basically worthless. BG, Miami, and Western could all have good years in hockey, good football years, decent basketball seasons and finish in the bottom half of that because their men's cross country and baseball teams were bad.

Buffalo competes in 8 men's sports...all MAC sponsored, BG 5. So am I happy we finished last? No. But it doesn't make me think our AD should get fired because of it.

I'll concede the women's sports, they all have 9 or 10 programs competing together in the MAC.

I couldn't care less about the Reese cup really because it's largely built on sports that I don't care about. Sure, I'd love to see BG do well in those sports, but it's not make or break for the AD or the Athletic Dept.

All I care about are revenue sports. How do we do in: Football, Basketball, and Hockey. And on that grading scale it's not good. The football program has been pretty poor...I think they're poised to be good this year, but it's not been real good in Christopher's tenure. Basketball has been fluctuating between crap and mediocrity since he got here. Women's basketball has been great but he inherited a great coach...we'll see where it heads now that we've lost Miller. Hockey has been crap since he got here...maybe the last few weeks of the season are the first sign of a turnaround, but the season was still pretty bad overall, so that may have been a fluke.

I think Christopher's done a good job fundraising and getting some new facilities funded and built. But in terms of winning in the key sports he's been abysmal.

And he's always about 2-3 years too late before he makes a coaching move, which isn't good either, IMO.
