Solid question. Let's make those two things happen and find out.
Re: Mary Ellen Gillespie interviews for UNK AD job
I don't know Gillespie but here is what I don't understand. We are at the bottom end of the MAC in terms of spending and operating budget yet every quote is about her ability to bring in money:
Chancellor Tom Harden: "She is a relationship builder, someone who has been highly successful in attracting support for her institution.”
Search committee member Lou LeCalsey: "As we look to increase financial support and continue to better position ourselves against the Horizon League competition, her strong fundraising background is a great positive.”
Janna Blais: "Mary Ellen is an outstanding relationship builder and an expert fundraiser."
Greg Christopher: "Record revenue growth and the Stroh Center are Mary Ellen’s legacy at Bowling Green."
It also says there was a 300% increase in annual giving.
So, were we that far behind when she initially took over or was the focus exclusively on paying for the Stroh Center and not on the overall operating budget, team budgets and coaching salaries?

Louis Orr and trying to kill a hockey program are Greg's legacy at BG.
Re: Mary Ellen Gillespie interviews for UNK AD job
Most of those quotes come from GC's puppets. In reality, some creative bookkeeping created some of those increases to build their resumes!

Who says we need to find a school for him. I thought I saw that Ford Field was hiring for a tough, no nonsense usher for section 653! Right up his alley!guest44 wrote:Best news of the day. Now can we find a school for Jimbo?

"Regarding BGSU, I would think their biggest strength is that they never give up, They never slow down and they battle hard even after the other team scores. We have to be on our game and never, ever take the foot off the gas for a second."

"BG was relentless. It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. All three of their goals were just grit and effort. That's a team any fan can be proud to support...they give all they've got."

Re: Mary Ellen Gillespie interviews for UNK AD job
According to the directory many job titles have now changed:
Leslie Irvine is now Senior Associate AD For Administration And Academics/SWA
Mark Shook is now Associate AD/Special Assistant To The Athletics Director (?)
Jermaine Truax is now Associate AD For Compliance And Administration
Nothing new about finding a replacement for Gillespie.

Re: Mary Ellen Gillespie interviews for UNK AD job
If we're trying to 'cut corners", at least financially, it might be logical that the remaining staff takes on new duties and Mary Ellen might NOT be replaced per se.
Than again, a new AD might have a different vision of how to utilize his staff.

Re: Mary Ellen Gillespie interviews for UNK AD job
Very good point. You would have to think her old position (Associate Athletic Director for External Affairs) paid six figures or close to it. It sounded like it primarily centered around fundraising and none of the above titles seem to suggest this responsibility.Class of 61 wrote:If we're trying to 'cut corners", at least financially, it might be logical that the remaining staff takes on new duties and Mary Ellen might NOT be replaced per se.

The new AD's at Buffalo and Ball State recently named people as "Deputy Director of Athletics," essentially the #2 ranking person in the department. Ball State hired the football media guy at Notre Dame (where their AD Tom Scholl came from) while UB hired a fundraiser from Ole Miss, which just happened to be where their AD came from.

The last figures I can find on the Toledo Blade Salary Databse indicate she made $81,659.32 in 2012.mscarn wrote: Very good point. She might have to hire a basketball coach soon if Wardle leaves for Marquette. I'm surprised that his name would be mentioned for the job but not Kowalczyk.
