Nice to have te 6 game lead but it isn't over yet. This team has shown the ability to lose five in a row just as easy as they can win that many. I won't believe they are going to win the division until they have it clinched.

Or bottom of the fifth, whichever way you want to look at it.

Re: The 2011 Cleveland Indians
Was out grocery shopping...when I went IN to the store, the score was 1-1....when I came OUT of the store, it was 6-2.... Choo wasn't playing (hurt side on swing yesterday), Cabrera not playing- "day off" (might not be bad idea as he's been struggling a bit lately), No Hafner (DL), No Brantley (wrist problem-poss. DL). No Sizemore (DL) Pitching seems to be wearing down.
Is there another team in baseball to have suffered this many critical injuries and yet stayed in the division race this long? Some folks are all over Acta as a "poor manager"....my question...who COULD manage this group successfully to this point in the season?

Yes, there are other teams with similar injury issues. Minnesota was hit just about as bad with Morneau and Mauer out most of the first half.
The only reason the Indians are "still in it" is because they are in the worst division in baseball and they have a gazillion last at bat wins.
But Acta has done a good job and will finish somewhere in the top 3 in COTY voting IMO.

I don't think the Indians are "in it" anymore. 6 games out with roughly 35 to play. I hope I'm wrong but there is a big old fork appearing out of the Tribe's silverware drawer.

RWT, But Minny hasn't been in the race virtually since the beginning of the year. Admittedly, with the M and M boys missing, it destroyed much of their offense...and the Indians' suprisingly good hitting plus excellent pitching took them out to a 30-15 start.... but it looks like the pitcher's arms are starting to fall off. As to Acta, I'd say he's done an excellent job of managing a team that rarely has had the same lineup twice in a row, due to injuries of some sort.

Cleveland has some noce young talent...LaPorta and Marte didn't pan out, but I really like Kipnis, Brantley and Santana. Too bad Choo, Hafner and Sizemore weren't there to help. I think the Jiminez deal was a huge mistake... he's pitched a ton of Coors innings. IIRC, the injury history on guys that have thrown that many innings at Coors is really bad.
Manny Acta has done a good job there...not sure he'll be MOTY as they probably won't win it, but he's done a nice job.

It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.

Tribe and White Sox picked up a game on the Tigers last night...Detroit leads by 5 over Chitown and 5.5 over Cleveland.

I think after 16 inings and a Progressive Field record 34 strikeouts, he decided he was tired and the game is ending right now. SAFE!Redwingtom wrote:Blind home plate umpire...lol
