Are you old enough to remember the big steel plate in the parking lot at Kewpee's? Narrow lot that dead ended into a building. You could drive in and angle park but would have to back out into a busy street-instead they installed a big steel plate at the back of the lot that spun on an axis. you drove your car onto the plate, honked and the burger guy inside pushed a button. Plate turned 180 degrees so your car faced the street and off you went. Kewpee's is an Ohio treasure. And remember "Your grandpappy ate there".

Never did-I have boxes and boxes and have looked through most of them but I think back then I was taking a lot of slides and I haven't come across any of those. And thanks for the word "turnplate"- for the life of me I couldn't think of that but that's what it was called. Old age is so much fun.SW-MI Falcon wrote:Yes, I remember it well. My mom just moved to Cridersville and I get over to Wapak more often these days. Ever been to the rock garden in the guy's yard with the giant boulders? One of the stranger, cooler things I've seen around there.

Well, then you've been missing out on some great coasters if you haven't ridden Millenium Force, Maverick or Top Thrill Dragster.bgsufn wrote:Me too. Went there all the time when I was a kid. Oh, I've gone a couple of times. I've won tickets and got a couple of freebees. Never pay for anything in the park.
I've been on everything but Top Thrill because the lines have always been long for that one.

Why? Their official address is Sandusky, OH. Huron is to the East.VDub26Falcon wrote:Well, then you've been missing out on some great coasters if you haven't ridden Millenium Force, Maverick or Top Thrill Dragster.bgsufn wrote:Me too. I'm not an expert, but I believe Dayton style pizza is thin with the toppings/sauce spread edge to edge. A large is cut into about 178 tiny square pieces including miniscule corner pieces (yes I said "corner" when talking about a circle, you know what I mean). Donato's is close to Dayton style.rood wrote:What, pray tell, is "Dayton Style Pizza"?Falcon137 wrote:Dayton style pizza-

The odd thing about that pizza was that there was salt on the bottom of the crust...not sure why.
Re: Ohio products I dig...
Cassano's was founded in 1953. Donato's then popped up in Columbus in the early 60s and spread from there.BGFan wrote:There used to be a place in Ottawa (Ohio, not OntarioFalcon137 wrote:Well said.RobbyFalcon wrote:I'm not an expert, but I believe Dayton style pizza is thin with the toppings/sauce spread edge to edge. Salt on the crust could have been special to that place. I know the Dayton pizza places sprinkle a special seasoning on the crust before baking it.

They changed mustards at Great American Ballpark which reminds me, Woeber's from Springfield is good stuff. I really like the Cleveland Stadium mustard as well.

I worked a horse show in Ashland in May and the concessions vendor had about six different Sandwich Pals mustards. I don't think I've ever ate so many dogs in a weekend!RobbyFalcon wrote:They changed mustards at Great American Ballpark which reminds me, Woeber's from Springfield is good stuff. The Amish place on E. Wooster St. sells some of the Sandwich Pals mustards.
