The Major League Baseball thread....
This thread cannot be recreated without the express written consent of Major League baseball...and the Pope...
In Detroit...Miguel Cabrera is a minor deity....Joel Zumaya is back and Justin Verlander never went anywhere. Look out Twinkies....Scherzer's back too and he brought the missing 5mph off his fastball with him.
So far as the Tribe goes....who's that lady? I do believe it's Grady. If Sin Soo Choo is your big bat, you're in for a long season....

New year and the Pirates are the Pirates. There is not a more anemic offense in baseball. How this team is 21-31 is amazing. Take away their games against the Cubs and they are 15-30.
Andrew McCutcheon is worth the price of admission, but he is it. In a few years when his rookie contract is up he will be traded for a couple single A propsects with arm issues.

Re: The Major League Baseball thread....
I saw McCutcheon play in Columbus last year before being called up to Pittsburgh. I could just tell he was the best player on the field. I immediately came home to look him up to see who he was and sure enough he was one of the top prospects in baseball. I am not a Pirate fan but for the sake of the organization and their fans, I hope he is able to stay there for a long time. Bad thing is it will be just a couple of years and we'll be hearing trade rumors about him going to the Yankees, Mets, Red Sox, etc.tiznow wrote:New year and the Pirates are the Pirates. Re: The Major League Baseball thread....
Cutch is a great kid, too. I got to meet him at an event this offseason and got a few autographs for my collection. He couldn't have been nicer, more gracious, or more well-spoken. I've had sweet tickets to his bobblehead night in August since they went on sale. I'll be very sad when he leaves.
It will be an interesting summer in bucco-land, though. Hometown kid Neil Walker is nailing down the everyday 2b job, and lincoln, tabata, and most importantly Alvarez will all be up within a month. It still won't matter, but at least it will be interesting.

Alvarez and Tabata are not ready yet. I know the season was over in April, but I think they both need to stay in Indy as long as possible. The McCutheon bobblehead will be sweet.

Tabata's leading the league in BA and SB, and he might be about 35 years old so I say get him up here.tiznow wrote:Alvarez and Tabata are not ready yet. I know the season was over in April, but I think they both need to stay in Indy as long as possible. The McCutheon bobblehead will be sweet.
As far as Alvarez, he's more ready than Andy LaRoche right now. Alvarez will be up as soon as the arbitration clock strikes midnight.
The bobblehead will look awesome in between the signed cased ball and signed framed 8x10. My little McCutchen shrine.

Re: The Major League Baseball thread....
You bring up a good point about Tabata.
Is his wife still locked up? Tabata has improved a lot over the end of last summer when he got called up to AAA. I maybe being cautious or just selfish si I can see them here.
The fine base running of the Pirates has trickled down to Indy. I can't believe how many base running blunders a team can have. His hitting is starting to come around I just hope they don't rush Alvarez and ruin him.
Lincoln has looked solid all year. Erik Kratz has looked good the last two years at catcher and unlike Doumit, he can play defense. He threw out more runners at the last game I was at then Doumit all year. 3 to 2.

Re: The Major League Baseball thread....
Man...can the Tigers win a freaking game nowadays? UGH...these slumps are always painful.
They finally shitcanned D-train (THANK GOD!). The starting pitching has come around pretty well the past few weeks, but the hitting (which was clearly way over its head in April) has gone the way of the dodo.
I think it's starting to become pretty clear that the Twins are the class of that division, not that it's a big surprise.
