man...I hate tornadoes

Post by Flipper »

One may have just zipped past us about 5-10 miles to the north. Rough, rough weather in SE MI and NW Ohio tonight.. Lake HS has been heavily damaged...cars are flipped over in the area..at least two are dead...heavy damage in Fulton county...

kinda hoping the adrenaline rush of being awakened by the freight train sounding wind gusts will wear off so I can get some sleep...

The only Tornadoes I like are the Dover Tornadoes.

I just saw 3 people were killed in 5 different tornadoes in NW OH. 2 people lost their lives in Lake Township in Wood Co. How close to Bowling Green is that?

Praying everyone up there stays safe. We have a tornado watch in Summit Co until 9am and I'm at work....with no beer in sight.

Lake High School is about 20-25 miles North-Northeast of BG. Close to Milbury.

Northeast. Commencement was to be today but is now postponed. Terrible night-a few months after we moved to H2Oville a tornado went by 2 miles north of us-tore off the high school roof at Anthony Wayne and wiped out a co-worker's house along the way. Pretty scary things, tornadoes. Our prayers are with everyone affected in any way.

Yep, kept me up from till about 2:00 or so this morning. Dundee got hit pretty hard, Cabela's is damaged and it sounds like the holiday Inn express/water park is really damaged. Haven't seen any pictures yet. Backyard is completely flooded, over 2 inches of rain in AA.

We were pretty fortunate...took a walk around the house and down the driveway and the only damage I can see is there's a tree (a Russian Olive ...the weed of the tree world) down and sorta blocking the drive...I think it can wait a few hours before I section it (using a hand saw...it's a nice workout). I'm going to cruise up to exit 17 in Dundee to see what things look like up there...

I picked a crazy night to head out to the East Side to see a former co-worker's band play. I drove past Lake HS approximately an hour before it was destroyed. We waited out the storms at the bar in Oregon, then getting home we drove through the aftermath...powerlines everywhere, chunks of houses in the roads, cars tipped in fields and anything else you can imagine. It was simply surreal.

I have a lot of friends from Lake, and many of them and their families are still in the Walbridge/Millbury area. 2 of my friends who were going to be joining us at the bar later got caught in the tornado, but thankfully were able to run into a stranger's house and take cover in their basement. Thankfully they, and all of my other friends (and their families) made it safe without too much damage to their property, but they were the lucky ones.

Saw the storm headed that way when the Blade tweeted about the Tornado Warning. Storm cell had to have gone right over my parents' house 3 miles west of where it touched down. They are out of state at a wedding, so I don't know how their house is, but probably just superficial damage at worst. Still have a sick feeling for those in Lake Twp/Millbury.

Kinda makes me want to tell the Harry Potter/hockey fans that are bugging my station about cutting into their shows for weather updates where they can stick it. :(

On Saturday night, one of my buddies was driving home from my house and (as he states) was actually running from the tornado. He said that while he was driving he saw transformers blowing behind him and by the time he got home (he lives 1/4 mile from Lake HS) that is when the Tornado hit the school. His house was fortunately not damaged. My thoughts and prays go out to everyone who was affected by this storm. It was unbelievable how bad it really was there. I went to go visit my buddy yesterday and its just a whole different feeling seeing it in person. We went to see some of his family in Millbury and I was just blown away by how horrible it was there.

Driving through it Saturday night it was awful. I can't imagine how bad it looked in full daylight.

I'm thankful that all of my friends from the area are still safe, but some of them did lose people they know. Not to mention the insane amounts of property damage around there. I still can't stop clicking people's Facebook pages and seeing the pics/updates/etc.

I completely agree hammb. It is just crazy how many people have been forced out of their homes. This was such a large area affected, over 7 miles! If this storm would have been just a little to the south it would have mostly hit open farm land.

A co-worker of ours has a horse farm in Fulton county...they were less than a qtr mile from houses that were destroyed..they have all kinds of debris on their property...carpeting...clothing..bits of wood..but they had no damage to their place at all. It was like that in Dundee..the hotel and the Lone Star steak house had a lot of damage....the gas station and fast food places just accross the street? None...

Thankfully...F3 tornadoes like the Dundee and lake TWP twisters are rare for these parts....

I agree! And I think I heard that the Lake Twp Tornado was an F3 and the Dundee one was an F2. Might be why the damage down here was so much more extensive, unfortunately.
