God, I hope not. Between hiring Clawson, Orr, and Berg, working with the smallest athletic budget in the MAC, inheriting a mess of a basketball program and a football program with off the field issues, and starting up while the economy was tanking and hitting the university in a very bad way, I really thank GC's done a fantastic job as our AD. I could realistically see him leaving for only one job if it opened ... Purdue.

I had no idea you regarded Paul Krebs that highly.

From what I hear, he is applying for about every AD job that comes open! Maybe if we had an AD that didn't schedule football games at 5:30 on Friday, and did a better job of marketing and selling the program, and a better job of spending money we do have, we would have a bigger athletic budget. You might even want to take a look at the overall won/loss record since he has been in charge. He is in charge of the "income" side too!

Not to mention the handling of the hockey program situation last year. It's time. In reality, there's nothing left for him to accomplish here.

He's performed admirably in his coaching hires. I wish him well in his job search.

I don't see NC State hiring an AD from a department that just finished last in men's performance and second to last in women's performance in the MAC. The other thing is just because you hire a new coach, it doesn't mean its a great hire. Orr has done a good job to this point. Clawson's offense revolved around one player, and he's gone. He has win with some of his players, before he's a great hire. IAA track record means nothing in my opinion. Bergeron hasn't even coached a game. We'll see in 2-3 years if that is a good hire.

I judge coaching hires by a little more than simple W-L records and I stand by my statement.

I'm kind of confused by the "income" comments. GC raised money for a new arena and the refurbishment of another. The money came from somewhere...

As for nothing left to do, how about watching the programs grow under your guidance in their new facilities. Or fulfilling the desire to add another women's program. Just because you hire a few coaches and built one arena doesn't mean there isn't anything left to accomplish.

factman simply dislikes GC and wishes that he would be gone from the University.

Those are donations. GC has been famous for rallying alums in funding drives dating back to his days at Purdue. The athletic budget I was referring to is what is allocated by the university. Smallest in the conference. The other two that offer hockey - Miami and WMU - are near the top. So GC has been doing a lot with a little.

Actually this will be the first year the hockey team has had an increased budget. We are finally in line with other CCHA teams in terms of salary for their coaches.

If I had to say I have one major complaint with the Christopher regime is that we've been very reactive instead of proactive.

The new hockey coach is the perfect example of why universities run out of money. We are now "committed" to our hockey program, so we give an unproven staff a raise. It isn't smart economics. Find a hungry coach who will do the job for less money. Take that extra money and put it into a facility or budget upgrade. Then after a couple years, if the staff wins, then give them the raise. Just my two cents.
