AMTRAK Promo Codes

Post by SaxyIrishTenor »

I'm looking for some cheap travel home this Thanksgiving and decided to give the train. Do any of you cool insiders have any tips that might get me from Omaha to Cleveland a little cheaper?

I did a ton of that when in school and after- not sure I'd want to today. Picked up a lot of women hitchers back in the day and saw lots more on various Interstate ramps around the country. Not sure many women would want to try it today. It was a cheap way to get around and the stories....OMG, the stories.

Just looking at the rates.... it would only be about $150 more to fly and be quicker. It looks like it would take nearly a day (19 hours) to do the train. I guess if you comparing the trip to driving... the train (time wise) is comparable.

I love the train. L.O.V.E. But Tech is right. Unless you're going up and down the eastern seaboard, the train is rarely convenient. I would love to take Amtrak from Philly to Cleveland, but the timetable is beyond ridiculous and Philly is a major Amtrak hub.

Oh, and if anyone has a chance to take the Acela, do it. Awesome.

I'm definitely looking to take the train; not looking for something quick or particularly convenient and want to be able to SEE the trip. (We're looking into taking it out west for vacation.) The financial constraints are pretty limiting, and I don't want to drive AT ALL. I've done that enough for a while. Haha.

I got a round trip today for $330. More than I hoped but I am looking forward to it.

Should be a good time. Let us know how it goes.

My cousin takes only the train these days. She lives in Rockport (Boston Area) and takes the train down the coast to Philly and Baltimore on her buying trips (She owns an art gallery) She got tired of plane delays - getting snowed in - I think she gets a room so she can have some privacy.

Enjoy the trip. We took the train from Rochester, NY to Glacier National Park. It's a great way to slow down and relax. Lot's of USA out there to pass through.

We splurged for a sleeper between Chicago and Glacier, which made it extremely comfortable.

See, that's the ideal situation. Going up and down the east coast is unbelievably easy with Amtrak.

Whereas getting across the Midwest is far less than ideal. Anytime I try to see if a train trip is feasible it seems like I would spend 18 hours overnight going somewhere I could drive in half the time. I wouldn't mind the longer time if I got to enjoy the scenery.
I love people who can laugh at themselves. It saves me the effort.
