Spent the day in PA. and took a tour of Fallingwater for our anniversary. Way more than I ever expected. I have seen the shows on it and read books, but nothing prepares you for the real thing.

On a side note, I visited another thing of architectural beatuy, it is called the "Beer Arena". Imagine a store with the brewed variety of "Anderson's", but you can only purchase beer by the case or keg. Picked up a 24 of Yuengling longnecks. They had electric forklifts to load pallets of beer right by the front door. It was almost heaven on earth.

Wife and I have done Fallingwater twice. Favorite part is the big painting/sketch of a peregrine falcon by the stairs. Possibly the coolest part is walking the trail to the lookout point and having the "postcard shot" jump out at you when you reach the clearing.

Some good whitewater rafting/kyaking at nearby Ohiopyle, too. Wright was apparently not a popular figure among locals since he lowballed wages for construction workers. Many thought the thing would collapse into the falls when the support pillars were removed. Wright walked under the overhang and had them knock the pillars out while he was standing underneath the house. House stayed right where it was. That, and the fact that there are only two vertical supports i the whole house, are all I remember. Impressive but not a warm looking place.

The overall idea of the house is that you are living in a cave or within a rock overhang. Sort of a return to nature thing. The shower heads - which are oversized - are supposed to give the effect of showering in a water fall.


Of course anyone else would have built a log cabin from a kit.

Yuengling is a must get when in PA. Been to Falllingwater a two times once on a school field trip in elementary school, appreciated it much more when I was older.


Your right no such thing as a twelve pack in PA. Some restaurants sell 6 packs to go. I guess PA is selling alcohol on Sundays now, at least some places. Indiana is still lagging behind with alcohol sales on Sunday. You can only buy to take home from a vineyard or microbrewery.
