Maybe this is old news to some of you. It sounds like things haven't been good among the family members for some time. This was the first I had heard about it and is sounds like the place is in real danger of going under.

I am about to go there for the first time on Thursday on my way back from Detroit. As long as it's still open at that time, I'll be ok.

If it's closed, you won't be missing much. I went there before a Mud Hens game. It's a freaking hot dog. To me, it seemed like an upscale Skyline Chili.

I like Packo's quite a bit more than Skyline Chili. I definitely prefer their dogs way more than your standard American hot dog/chili dog. Still, I do think the place is a bit overrated. It's good, and I go a few times a year, but it's not this destination that people should go out of their way to check out, IMO.

Have gone a couple times when working an all day with the Mud Hens, I liked it, I'm bias though so of course I like Skyline better, see it as a spicer verison of Skyline. If I'm in downtown Toledo I'll go, but I'm not venturing to Toledo just to eat there

I thought Skyline was nasty, disgusting chili. Do they have nasty disgusting hot dogs and sausage too?

Two dogs with everything and a bowl of chili - if you did not make this order with a beer you have not experienced Packo's. And when your done get strudel. Front St. on Saturday night with the Cake Walk and Jazz Band was a true experience.
Work your way done the menu for some cabbage dishes and you'll get the some Hungarian flavor.
Skyline Chili I tried once - like that version of chili at Steak-n-Shake better and the dogs were nothing more than what you get at a ice cream shop.

The proper way to eat Skyline Chili in over spaghetti. 3 Way is my fave.... the rest of the family likes the 4 Way with onions.
Only Clevelanders could hate Skyline or screw up ordering it.
Come down to the Dayton/Cincy area and experience the real deal.

Top it all off with a trip to Graeter's Ice Cream.

RE: Packo's. I went there once freshman year and this was when MASH was still on the air, there was one location, and the old man ran the joint. It was pretty good. But it the start of a long night of heavy drinking, so my memory could be blurred..... and I'm pretty sure I didn't get to keep dinner.

Graeter's is very good, but I will take Handel's in a close call.

Skyline chili is terrible and the only people that I've ever met that actually like the crap are those from the Cincy area. Seriously, ya'll need to learn what the hell Chili should be.
For starters, it doesn't belong on freaking spaghetti.
Secondly, look at these pictures:
One of these pictures is Chili...the other is some weird foul tasting bean/beef soup. Not only do they incorrectly put beans in their chili, and serve it over freaking spaghetti (SERIOUSLY?), they have the audacity to put CINNAMON in it!? SERIOUSLY? WTF!
I'm sorry, but that s**t is VILE. I find that almost nobody in this state knows how to actually make Chili (Packo's isn't that good either), but at least most people don't put freaking CINNAMON in it...ugh...

I have never thought of "Cincinnati Chili" being a true chili. Its just a name for the dish.
I'm not a big skyline fan (the stores), I find their versions to be kind of bland. But let me make mine own at home, and there isn't a finer meal.

Haven't had original Skyline in a long time but it was GREAT back in the day. And trying to compare chili to Skyline is silly-they aren't intended to be the same dish- each has their niche -maybe I'm not that big a food snob but cinammon is just fine with me. Just a matter of taste. Hell, I've heard tales of people who like broccoli.
