New Radio Shack

Post by NWLB »

Mall based store closes Wednesday, the new store opens a week from then. Nice clean new place in the old Movie Gallery across from Wal-Mart.

That concludes news from BG, the next news is scheduled for next year.

It does seem like it's been busy out there.

Could the Victory Inn be next?

Sure, got a match?

That place is an utter disaster. Every social media site, travel guide, and forum should warn people to stay away from the place. Of course, the owners seem to have little interest in making a profit from the tax write-off it is.

Heard they were getting $100 a night for homecoming weekend....

It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. All three of their goals were just grit and effort. That's a team any fan can be proud to support...they give all they've got."

$100? Almost as disgusting as the condition of the place. I wonder how many people were kvetching about it before they got done unpacking.

Sad to say, that's where we stayed for the Morgan State game. Quite simply, there were no more rooms at BG hotels for Saturday night. I forget exactly what we paid, but it was too much. The place continues to get more awful every time I see it.

Honest question: Can BG support another decent hotel?

Can it? Sure. Where to build and whom to finance said project, that is the question.

I have no idea where it stands in the master plan now. But I recall an early version called for a campus hotel and conference center behind what was projected to be what is now the Stroh Center. They won't raze the apartments they just bought until they pay off. However the larger question remains if anywhere in the plans, BGSU might seek a partner to build a quality hotel in town.

Could the University be motivated to approach the owners of Victory, raze and have it rebuilt? Can the city help bring pressure to bear, of whatever kind? Do people in town have to start a Facebook page and campaign to get the place shut down or boycotted?

Hey Nathan, I've asked this of others before, but maybe you would know ... why weren't "hotel" type rooms included in the new union? The old one actually had them. The new one, of course, does not.

Anyway, maybe the master plan is supposed to address that. But, yeah, it would be cool if the university could just buy that site, raze the buildings and start over. It's in such a perfect spot in regard to athletics and such.

One thing that I always supposed worked against Victory Inn was its size - it's got that huge banquet facility, a pool and the sports bar. That's a lot of nothing, IMO. All three are either defunct (the banquet facility and bar) or barely functioning (the pool). Just seems like a waste.

I don't have an in-depth knowledge of the hospitality business, but it seems to me that your standard hotel is different from a hotel with a banquet hall and/or a conference center. So if you could focus your business on the hotel part, it would appear to be easier to make a go of it.

How can you guys say that about the V-Inn? According to the BG News write up re: BG area hotels, it's a THREE STAR hotel, on par with H.Inn Express and Hampton. Gad!!! Who had the Nerve to put that into print? #-o

Stayed there one time...and that was enough. I paid $55 for the night and it was too much. Would have been better to sleep in the car. LOL

It's the BG News. The people that brought us the great STD debacle back in the 80's and we've been fighting that piece of crap article ever since.

Stayed at the Days Inn for the first time. It was myself and 3 college buddies. Booked the room Wednesday night (10/12) for Friday before homecoming.

For $55, no complaints. Able to walk back from Frickers and short drive to the stadium!

Since we're off the topic of the new "Shack," one reason I dig going to Muncie with my friend the Ball State alum is because their on-campus hotel is about $60 a night. The rooms are very humble but clean and the location is right next to the tiny campus village part of town. There's no breakfast thrown in or anything but you can't beat the price and location.

I would love to see something like this at BG.

When visiting with friends I stay at the cinder block joint behind Frickers--used to be called the Buckeye Inn, now I think it's the Days Inn--but when I travel with the wife I try to stay at the Hampton.

What I would like to see, besides another hotel, is a cab service to take people from the hotels by the Doyt to Howard's.

BG has a couple cab services already, if I'm not mistaken.
