replay

Every time I start to think MLB needs instant replay, I see a play like what happened in the second quarter of the Giants-Packers game. Long delay and an obvious call is still blown. Packer dude fumbled big time.

I don't believe that the baseball replay isn't getting more ink. It seems like a throwaway line in the labor agreement, but I think it may turn out to be pretty ugly.

Men at second and third, batter hits one down to right field that the umpire calls just foul. Everyone stops and returns to their bags. Replay shows it was fair. Now what? More groundrules? How does that make the game better?

Are you actually trying to argue that changing an incorrectly called foul ball into a Ground Rule Double doesn't improve the game?

I'm sorry, but any time you can fix an incorrect call it improves the game, at least for me.

Is it that clear? Where did the ground-rule double come from?

From what I've read, they're looking at umpires deciding what would have happened had the call gone correctly and then awarding bases. I can't imagine what will happen on a reversed catch/trap call.

And, yes, I suppose I am arguing to allow the action to proceed as called in the flow of the game. I get no enjoyment from extended replays and over 162 games, the calls all even out anyway.
