NEW YORK (CNN) - One World Trade Center will become the tallest building in New York City today, April 30.
Work on the new skyscraper hits that milestone with the first column of its 100th floor.
The building is being built about a pace of about one floor per week.
When it's finished, One World Trace Center will stand a symbolic 1,776 feet tall - for 1776, the year America declared its independence.
The Port Authority plans to open the building in late 2013.
Be sure to watch the time-lapse video of the construction on the link above!

One World Trade Center becomes NYC’s tallest building
"Regarding BGSU, I would think their biggest strength is that they never give up, They never slow down and they battle hard even after the other team scores. We have to be on our game and never, ever take the foot off the gas for a second."

"BG was relentless. It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. All three of their goals were just grit and effort. That's a team any fan can be proud to support...they give all they've got."

If you are looking for a good read - may I recommend:
[url:http://www.amazon.com/Higher-Historic-R ... 088&sr=1-1] Higher by Neal Bascomb[/url] which tells the story of egos, cash, construction, and politics as two buildings raced to be the tallest in New York City, only to have a third step into the fray. This isn't an architecture book....... architecture is just one of the characters.
