Brother Bands

Listening to the Avett brothers and got to thinking- Which is the best band that featured brothers? There have been a bunch from the obvious: Kinks to the less obvious: Marshall Tucker, and probably a bunch I don't know. No fair using bands that had brothers who never played together (The Lynnyrd Skynnyrd Clause) or brothers who did one-offs (The Stevie Ray-Jimmy Vaughan Clause) or ones nobody ever heard of (The AZZ poster "I used to be in a band with my brother in eighth grade" Clause).

So who's the best?

How about brothers from another mother? If that works I nominate Wylde Stallion

Given their ultimate import in the scheme of things (we wouldn't be here without them even though they were born after us, I think) I will give them a special dispensation.

This has to be Hanson, going away, right?

I lean away from the Hansons as their recent stuff hasn't lived up to the brilliant blossom of their early talent. I go with North Mississippi All Stars featuring Luther and Cody Dickinson, with Kinks and Allmans not far behind.

Really, this thread has been around this long and no one has mentioned Van Halen or Styx? Crap, I'm old.

You're not that old, and I'll prove it:

The Beach Boys

And even more ancient (and with SW Ohio roots):

The Mills Brothers

Or more along the lines for H2O:

The Dorsey Brothers

For you bubble gum lovers, The Osmonds.

Then there's the Doobie...oh, wait, never mind.

Sly and the Family Stone. Besides Sly and Freddie Stone, their sister Rose was also in the band. Larry Graham was awesome on the bass.

No one on the BG board thought of these guys? (the '70s were scary)

I actually considered them- they did some really cool and strange music before the Sat Night Fever stuff. Odessa is one of my favorite albums and not just because it was fuzzy. The Dorsey's...I cut my teeth on Jimmy and Tommy. Literally. Used to gum my dad's 76s.
