Bye Bye Twinkies
Bye Bye Twinkies!!
No, not the Minnesota Twins, but Hostess. Hostess is filing bankruptcy and closing operations as early as 14 days. No more twinkies, fruit pies, ho ho's, ding dong's, or wonder bread. Back when I was a kid I can't remember not having at least something from hostess numerous times a week.

Not to sound heartless, but if I hear a Hostess worker complaning about not having a job from this, I will tell them they did it to themselves. They went on strike because they didn't like their contract, and Hostess told them they couldn't give them anything more. Now they're filing bankruptcy.
ROLL ALONG!!!

Hostess was already in bankruptcy. They are going to liquidate now. Each brand will be sold off individually.gmartin wrote:Bye Bye Twinkies!!

They were restructuring .... One union that represents less than one third of the workforce wouldn't agree to concessions, so the whole company gets fucked over. Hope they're happy...

8% pay cut, PLUS paying more for their own insurance benefits. I'll bet a LOT of money that the CEO will still get his big fat paycheck AND bonus. Even with concessions they would have been out of a job within 2 years. Or they'd be facing more concessions while the top were still getting pay raises and bonuses.Flipper wrote:They were restructuring .... "The new contract cut salaries across the company by 8% in the first year of the five-year agreement. Salaries were then scheduled to bump up 3% in the next three years and 1% in the final year.
Hostess also reduced its pension obligations and its contribution to the employees' health care plan. In exchange, the company offered concessions, including a 25% equity stake for workers and the inclusion of two union representatives on an eight-member board of directors"
If they let the company go under with that deal on the table...they deserve to be unemployed...for a long, long time.

I was really getting tired of blaming Bush for all our problems. I am glad we have someone else to blame for the next 4 years.

I think that its best to look at both sides before calling one an idiot.Flipper wrote:I'm not bashing unions per se....I am bashing this particular group of idiots....

Re: Bye Bye Twinkies
Why? The folks that own Hostess told the union what would happen if they didn't agree to the concessions...they didn't agree so...poof...bye bye went the jobs. With U6 unemployment at 14.6%, I think anyone walking away from employment right now with no other options is an idiot.
